Eatnsleep Neutral Newbie May 4, 2009 Share May 4, 2009 (edited) I am considering the above. I went for a test drive and it felt good. Downside is I don't see a lot of Citerons on the road. Does that translate into higher cost of maintenance or a low resale value? As this is my first step towards getting a conti car, what relevant questions should I be asking the SE (a more detailed session)? As this is my first step towards getting a conti car, what relevant questions should I be asking the SE (a more detailed session)? Bro, I also test drove the C4 Grand Picasso yesterday. Was told that the engine is that used in the Mini Cooper S. Very bouncy ride for me though. Buy car now dun need to talk about resale value to be realistic. Believe you need to consider maintenance only. Agree that I dun see a lot of Citroens on the road. This is also 1 (negative) reason for me. But was told by the SE that all the C4GP have been sold out. Next batch of shipment arrives only in July. So guess in the near future we should see more on the road? Quirky_ster Clutched May 4, 2009 Share May 4, 2009 I would suggest.. if I may... to also test drive the 308... this one using the same engine.... also french.. but won the German build awards... but only draw back it the decade old 4 gear otobox! Resale value = COE/PARF rebate value + body value Normally, a Jap car of similar class will be able to fetch a few K more than a conti. For eg. A 2+ yr old cefiro 2.3L V6's current average body value is probably $5-8K. A 2yr+ conti of similar class would be fetching arnd $4-6K body value. I was told the next batch will be Sep. If I have any colour preference, I have to inform him by early May. I did not test GP though. Maybe GP and P have different feel and batch timings. But that also translates into a more reliable gearbox. As long as it feels good when u r driving, thats all that matters. Trust me... I prefer driving my mazda 2 with 4AT than my qashqai with extronic CVT (though its smoother). But thats just me

I am comparing driving the Opel Corsa 4AT vs Skoda Roomster 6AT.... it's way more involving and energetic!

Actually, the Extronic-CVT is way more responsive than the notorious older version CVT and in no way feels sloppy. But somehow I still prefer the drive of the Mz2. Even 2 cars that uses 4AT can feel worlds apart. The mz2's 4AT shifting is damn quick & smooth compared to my family's megane's 4AT For your case, its best to test drive both models. Dun take the specs too seriously Edited May 5, 2009 by Rickster
Mikeyeo Clutched May 5, 2009 Share May 5, 2009 true true... but u r comparing the 4AT against CVT.. aka ( smooth and sloppy ... sorry.. personal oppinion).. I am comparing driving the Opel Corsa 4AT vs Skoda Roomster 6AT.... it's way more involving and energetic! Many people has the common mindset that vehicle with CVT engine is slow in pick-up and sluggish except that the transmission is smooth. But why are car manufacturers still using CVT engine for their vehicles? My previous 2 Mit Lancers and current GLX model are CVT engine. If the engine is sluggish, why do I still buy them. The simple reason is that I know what stock parts to change, what to be added to overcome the sluggish pick-up and finally, having a very high torque at low rev. My Lancer pick-up from 0km/hr to 100km/hr is very fast and smooth in very short time with only light tapping on the throttle. I'm always the first to zoom off when the traffic lights change from red to green. Overtaking is also a breeze. Who says CVT engine cannot be fast during pick-up and yet smooth. Being a car enthusiast and passion for cars, I make lots of researches via websites and oversea car enthisiasts on how to overcome the typical mindset of CVT engine being sluggish and slow and yet LTA compliance. My wife loves to drive the Lancer because of the instant pick-up even when the engine is cold in the morning.
Quirky_ster Clutched May 5, 2009 Share May 5, 2009 I know what Mike Yeo is talking about... and know about his passions for cars and have the respect for that... Stock vis stock... it is what it is.. albeit the new ones maybe not... even keen to learn what he did to get the low end torque.. so as not to OT so much... back to main topic.. I am still waiting for the 308SW with it's 4AT in the hope that it's liveable.. perhaps FC will suffer a little.. it's always a compromise of things.. My only "irk" with french are their reliability.. but the 308 seems to get it right this time round.. and hence my attention to it.. C4.. well.. I need sometime to get use to the fix centre steering wheel... and the central console... otherwise it's a nice car! ↡ Advertisement
