In the end, price matters in Singapore... Proton is still improving, but it also needs time to prove that their formula works so that it will win hearts of people, proving that their product is reliable and quality assured. But now, proton has yet to prove them, and has already set a uncompetitive pricing on almost all their models. How on earth it is going to sell in big volumes in Singapore, especially below the 2 litre category? They are not some kind of exclusive rides that requires to only sell in small volume with high price tag...

 

I used to be a potential proton buyer after driving two protons and sitting in them for more than 20 years, but too bad, the way Proton SG doing their business, they have already made many ex proton owners lost hearts in getting newer proton as their replacement, the numbers got so much lesser... Don't forget in mid 90s, WIRA was the best seller in SG... Now to see protons on the road is quite a rare sight... Price the model right, it will do wonders...

 

Could not agree more than u.. Fortunately, i bought the wira before they stopped the sales in Singapore. There was a period of time that I was asking myself if I have really made the right choice when all my friends who bought new cars, chose either jap or korean. To them I was someone more like a China car owner, one who stands out among themselves, all of them ask me y I made this choice, some even comment that it was a silly decision.

 

The reason y I bought wira was I saw this model right thru my younger days in army. It was used as a commander car thou not for those very high ranking, then my csm had one, my relatives had one and we sat in one almost everything I was in msia be it in the form of taxi or transportation provided. All in all, I was just pretty familiar with this car. Being the 1st car in the family, I was not sure abt the cost of car ownership and didnt want anything flashy either. But I did experience the peer pressure and how the society look at you when I drive such a car.

Was at Suntec yesterday., there are afew Exoras there on show. Went through the car interior. For a 1600cc car is value for money. Selling at $58000. Cannot compare to Toyota wish but for the price and space the car is value for money.

In the end, you should look at the amount you can save. I drove my dad's Wira through my Poly days, some sniff at it, but it was the first car I drove and I was the first to drive in the class. I got to say that it does hurt some times, but heck it, because at those times, many could not even afford a car and they still looking at branding? They are taking public transport while I had the luxury to drive.

 

In the end 13.5 years after, many changed their ride 3 times, while I still driving the same old ride... Some who once sniff at the car, was really amazed by the fact that I can drive the car for that long period of time with an interior as good as new. Even till the day, I got my new ride and wave goodbye to that humble Wira, that Wira still drove real well...

 

In fact, this car do amazed me because all in all, I haven't spend a huge amount of money in maintaining it. Excluding regular servicing in Malaysia, the amount I spend for parts add up to less than $4k and that is spread out for a long period of 13.5 years mate...

to wait for another 2-3 months to see physical car. price-wise still no clue, but in m-line.

 

(exclude leather seats & rear spoiler-pay $1,500/- to include) but comes with proton original

 

alloy 15"rims (nothing fancy).They are not even taking orders for those interested in the

 

manual yet till the physical car & pricing is out. (so chances are that a manual may not even appear

 

if the current auto doesnt fare well in terms of sales here. Since in S'pore an auto ride seems more sought after.

 

noticed quite a number of people committing their bookings today. $3,000/- booking fee required.

 

spend almost 1/2 half an hour examining the exora's exterior & interior- will just comment on the + points.

 

1. excellent head room from front to back.

2. fabric material on m-line were of good quality.

3. dashboard equipment, door panels, trims etc well put together

4. engine compartment space facilitate easy maintenance

5. 1st & 2nd row seat ample leg space

6. instrument devices on dashboard & gear lever within easy reach of driver.

7. overall build quality of exora much better than any china make.

 

may wait to see how the manual is priced & how the COE reacts in the next few months.

 

I can only say that if the exora was priced anything in the region of $50k or below. many like me

 

will not hesitate to make the switch from the more popular jap models.

Was there at Suntec this evening. Saw that many people looking at the car but few people signing on the dotted line. I will say that at $58000, the car is value for money. It scores a 4 stars rating at the NCAP test. How many cars at this kind of price has such high safety ratings?

So far 2 of my colleagues already booked the Exora(One with 4 kids and other with 2 kids).There are others who prefer to wait for the COE to went down in 3-5 mths time.One of the are ex-Hyundai Trajet and Mitsubishi Lancer owners who are looking into budget 7 seater MPVs.

Havent done test ride in SG but i've done so in JB on both variant ie the M-Line(my mum in law)and H-Line(my cousin).I feel that the M-Line pick up is a bit better than the H-line one.Pick up is adequate if there's only 4-5 pax inside but once fully packed its a bit sluggish not to mention uphill.Notice the power kicks in at 3,250rpm above where you see the mid range powerband works.Cruising along highways at speed of 110-120kmh not a problem as the sound insulator is better than previous Proton models.Cornering is surprisingly good for a "big" size MPV..The original factory 15inch alloy rims sucks,Its better to upgrade to either 16incher with 205/55-16 or even 17inch with 215/45 tyres Of course the rims must be lighter than ori ones.Fabric seats for M-Line is definately the best among other Protons,No furry and the centre cover looks exactly like leather!From my opinion its a decent compact MPV with generous space inside but come with little accessories for the M-Line,Be prepared to fork put $ for fog lights,DVD,Rims etc..Its a pity the M-line also doesn't come with cruise control as standard as compared to the H-Line. If you're looking for a better MPV with good pick up then this is out of question ardy,For $57,999 its worth to consider for a family of 6-7 to look into especially when times are bad curently.I think in JB there's a shop specialised in Campro engine near Skudai area if i'm not mistaken,So far a few Exora owners had their pick up done a bit better there.Current Exora pick up is more of less same with the Suzuki APV..

Thanks for sharing. I am curious to try but was busy, may recommend company to replace some of our fleet as we travel to MY quite often.

 

SG has only M-Line so no issue of thinking which to choose, fog light, DVD, rims etc is not important as its company car but no cruise control is a pity

 

Since COE went up again on Wednesday, think Proton will increase their price, was told "original" price is $60k but launching given $3k discount, now COE up and launch over, wonder how much now more to pay...

 

Anyway price no big issue as if buy its company $$$ plus I probably can get some "special" price....hehe

Suzuki APV is 95% Indonesia made under licensed by Suzuki Japan.

I feel that S'pore Exora M-Line comes with cruise control if i'm not mistaken,There's additional stick on the right side of the steering wheel.Think only export M-line has it.

Saw the first Proton Exora on road @ Admiralty Drive/ Vehicle no. is SJS64xx. Spoken to the uncle whom drove it and he saw it's a worth buy for the space and the ample headroom. Power not and issue to him coz he don't speed. FC unknown as he got the car yesterday only.
