HI All,

Please share your views on the Golf GTI especially owners. Does not matter if it is the old or latest model.

Would like to understand more from those with everyday driving experience. Others please comment too, just share share.

How do you rate it?

Do you think there is a better car for less money?

Why?

Driving an Integra now. Backside itchy, thinking of changing.

Thanks a lot. [flowerface]

is your integra the normal 150bhp or the type r?

if it's the type r, the Gti may be lacking in power to you...

the Mark 6 Gti is quite a looker i must say, although the Mark 5 is ugly...

the drive is good though...and no, there isn't any better car for less money (unless you get 2nd hand)...

the Golf GTi is in a different league from STi and Evo...

you can drive the GTi anywhere you want to go, around town, the ride is smooth and engine quiet...

in the Evo and STi though, ride is firm harsh, engine very noisy...

Mine is the non Type-R. Only 160bhp.

Any views on spare parts and maintenance of the Mark series?

What about resale?

Resale is definitely there.

Considering the fact that if you get a GTI and mod it up to stage 3 MTM, you're looking @ 350hp for that small monster! SWEET!

GTI is a very VERY understated car.

I think GTI is so understated, people who don't know much about cars could easily mistake it for another cheapo hatchback.

But inside this car is some mean engineering, not many can outrun this bugger [thumbsup][thumbsup][thumbsup]

Stage 3 @ 350bhp i think the engine will not last more than a few years, nevermind if mod by MTM or Oettinger. Like F1 engines, throw away after the race.

but low end torque is very good and you can certainly utilise it.

however I have to disagree with resale value... there was a new gti old stock no frills going for only for <$90K... profit margins on VW is huge here.

also I've owned a VW before and they aren't really tropicalised - even for turbo engines they get extremely hot - resulting in lots of aftersales service for cars reaching 5 years old.

just look around when you drive and try to spot the number of used VW on the road.

on the other hand its very affordable, good tech, build wise solid, QC eg rattling. plasticy materials are obvious though.

if you're looking into real power, consider the Subaru Impreza Sti A-Line...2.5 Turbo 300bhp 5A/T...but you can't put all that power down on the road with the Impreza, that is the problem...

Golf GTi Mk 6 is the way to go...although why don't you wait for the R36model?

I don't own a golf gti (nor I have my own car). But if ever I'll be given a chance to have one, golf gti would be one of my top choices. I strongly believe in the quality of Volkswagens parts that's why I can say that it's a good investment. Plus, it also looks petite yet snappy.

hp only sells the car, torque wins the race!

gti 2L stage 1 up the hp from 200 to 240, with 400Nm torque. 0-100 improved to 6s or so from 7s.

not fast enough?

very fast gearbox. hp not enough. slow is the word.

Utilize 300 horses good enough [:p] Focus RS is FWD and 305hp.

BUT hor, having been there and done something like that, modded horses are always somewhat skinner than stock horses. [laugh]
