Maersk1 1st Gear April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 (edited) bros, my current broadband contract (8mbps) with Singnet has been expired and am able to terminate or renew the contract.... having thoughts of switiching over to Starhub...but not sure how's Starhub broadband performance...any bro can highlight to me, whether to continue with Singnet or swtich over to Starhub.... I had thought maybe to wait till June for the next IT show and see what's Singnet can offer on the freebies... Kenneve888 4th Gear April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 Yes, you shd wait for IT show, or better still, till Nov/Dec period if you can. I notice the bestest deal usually comes around Dec period. As for Starhub, I am using the ultimate unlimited plan that came with a free Compaq notebook (30 mths at $76 a mth). Quite worth it cos notebook at that time cost close to $2k, and in 30 mths I would hv paid = around $2.4k incl GST, hence effectively i am paying abt $400 for 30 mths of surfing) the contract is finishing soon in Jul 09 i think no prob with the connection and normal surfing speed I seldom download so I cant comment
Amortifiedpenguin Clutched April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 PMed you. In the case that you wana sign through StarHub you can take up the offer. Its cheaper than in-store promotions.
Booboon 1st Gear April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 I have been a singnet customer for 6 years. I find that their broadband connection pretty stable.
Rainman 1st Gear April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 I downgraded from singnet 10mbps to 3mbps, downloading + surfing + gaming seemed not much diff. I totally agree that singnet speed is stable and consistent, can't say much with my BIL 8mbps starhub....

Maersk1 1st Gear April 30, 2009 Author Share April 30, 2009 SH sux.. i am on 12mbps.. doesn't live up to its name. oh no...bro, what's makes you said that SH sucks...can elaborate more, honestly...am acutally thinking of sign up SH 8mbps
Amortifiedpenguin Clutched April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 Note that Mbps is MegaBITS per second and not MegaBYTES. So, a 12Mbps plan peak d/l will be 1.5Megabytes per second and a 8Mbps will be 1Megabyte per second handy converter here! Converter Anyway, with regards to ISP, I can say that StarHub does have its shortcomings in the infrastructure for dense residential zones, ie. HDB flats/condos. This is because every block is given a direct cable line from SH which is then split 12 times, one for each level (assuming the block has 12 floors) then it is split again to each household. Furthermore, the same cable point is also used not just for internet but also for cable tv. advantages of using SH- connection is very stable, unlike ADSL. IP is not as dynamic and so doesnt jump around as much as other ISPs. It does not require a phoneline to work. Better discounts and savings if you sign up for all 3 services. Yes, Singtel has MIO, but whats there to watch on mioTV that i cant find on the internet? I suggest for HDB/condo residents to use the 8Mbps plan for normal internet surfing and light gaming. Jman888 Moderator April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 I recontract my SNBB 10mb to mio home (10mb) for $59/mth (with same broadband speed, mio tv and phone) and I get 30% off my mobile bill as I hv 4 singtel mobile users at home. think that was quite a good deal for me. Albeniz Turbocharged April 30, 2009 Share April 30, 2009 I am a light-user and need a mobile broadband for outdoor use. Does anyone have a value-for-money plan to recommend? Starhub has one at $27, and needs to pay setup/registration charges. It comes with a 2-year contract. This plan might be too expensive for an infrequent user.
