There are a few signs of dampers having problems. If it's hydraulic, then you will see oil leaking. Hydraulic shock absorbers are not very lasting. Normally when you are replacing them, you might be able to find gas versions and you might want to consider an "upgrade". Gas absorbers should last longer with better comfort and normally more expensive too.

For gas absorbers, normally when it's broken, it'll offer no shock absorbing or no dampening effect. Basically car can keep on bouncing. Or if they are your front shocks, and when you brake hard, the whole car's front end is diving more than it should - then you should also replace them. Sometimes they can also be jammed and then your car wouldn't even bounce at all. Feels like there is no suspension at all.

Shock absorbers must be changed in pairs. Front pairs, rear pairs or both pairs together.

How much you guys change for a pair of shock absorber? I mean an average and std one. And how much for a std coil spring if I need to change one?

Hi gurus,

I own a Honda Civic VTI 4A (the one before the current CIVIC generation), it is abt 4yrs now, and 85km.

1. Sound 1: When there are passenger at the real, there would be "rusty" sound from the back when i go over hump. this "rusty" sound sounds like my uncle pickup in the 70s. And now no warranty already :(...I mean it happens after the 80km.

Could this be the shock problem?

2. Sound 2: when i navigate from even ground to up a slope on the left or right, for example, driving up a multi-storey carpark. there would be this "rusty and sqeezze " sound coming from the rear. This "rusty and sqeezze" sound is that holding a rigid metal frame and try to twist it. The sound is very similar to the door latch at your home when it is not used for a long time or dry.

Could this be a problem on the car frame?

Advice welcome!

thanks

tikili

Hi, I hd just change a new set of tyre and found that there are some "rusty and sqeezze" when going up the multi- story cp. I wonder weather is it my suspension is gone or is the new tyre giving me problem? btw, my car had just clock 45000km. can any1 advise?

Anyone know where to get after market shock absorber for Sylphy? Current Sylphy is soft. Any recommendation from anyone?

FYI, many latio owners experience the softness of the spring-coil due to it is design as a soft-ride car, therefore many had request to TC to replaced with a stiffer spring-coil which could solve the problem but it will become bumpier.

hint - latio and sylphy owns the same spring-coil.

paiseh borrow thread.

anyone can tell me what's the damage (other than scraped undercarriage) when you 'forget' to brake for a hump at about 40-60km/h?

damage to shocks?

If it is an isolated incident, I think your shocks would still be able to absorb it.

However, if this is your driving pattern, your shocks might go up the lorry prematurely than its stipulated lifespan.

The shocks should be ok unless it is already very old & worn out [nod]

If it's jus a hump, undercarriage should be ok one [nod]

Turbocharged

You mean 2nd hand ones?

Brand new coils are more expensive than shocks.....[laugh]

BC coils cost ~1200-1300..and when you decide to change car, it still has some 2nd hand value.. [laugh]

Go to Nissan stockist, buy the shocks

then go to workshop change

Coil springs wise, don't need to change as they last pretty long... much longer than your 10-years COE paper

Any recommended brand of shock absorber? Maybe intend to buy the parts in Singapore & go JB to install it.

I heard and read from this forum that KYB is not bad. Maybe you would like to consider.

Else, revert back to OEM. Go to a stockist shop where you can get stock absorbers at a cheaper price as compared to going to AD.

FRONT lowered spring and aftermarket shocks + REAR coilovers

Isit possible?

Not advisable. It will compromise the suspension and performance of your car. Safety is an issue.
