Stonesix 1st Gear January 19, 2010 Share January 19, 2010 I got lobang for original absorber to Altis at less then 100 Bucks. Genuine parts. Installation can be arrange less than 100 also. thanks but i just been carrot head by a ws in northlink for the ori shock for $175 each + labour $60. still licking the wound...a lesson to share with other forumer too...avoid checking car on sunday as its probably cost higher and also you got no other ws to intercheck the price and cost. Ichibawa 5th Gear January 19, 2010 Share January 19, 2010 anyone heard the recent batch of KYB (made in Japan) shock absorber having quality problem? one ws in northlink told me not to use...because made in japan one got quality problem...and many in the mrket are made in thailand one. is this thru or just his own bul**sh*t? If there are quality problems I am sure KYB would do a recall in order not to jeopardize the name that they have build up over the years. Most Nihon Tomyam cars dampers are made by SKYB (Siam KYB) because most of the car makers are there. I think the ws is not being truthful here because cost of good for Thai made is much cheaper than Japan made absorbers hence they may have made this up in order to earn more margin from a sale. Yuan 6th Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 ============ After any work on your steering/shocks, get a good 4 wheel computerised alignment done. And dont trust the ws if they tell u they wil do it for u. I learnt the hard way. I agree too. After changing my suspension (including shocks) some time ago, I continue to drive as per normal. A month or so past and I realised that my wheels are a bit different. Went to do a computerized alignment on my wheels. All the alignment were off......This is notwithstanding that the workshop who change my suspension had carried out the computer alignment for me. Stonesix 1st Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 dunno wat car you drive, but get a 2nd opinion. 2 yrs ago, a set (left+right) of stock absorbers for toyota altis costs $225 incl labour. Todays, a pair of stock toyota altis shock absorber (Tokico Thailand) cost as much as $410 incl labour... obviously I was kanna carrot...but lesson learnt and blacklisted that chopping ws in northlink. But I had a bad skid on a slippery road & crashed into the barrier. After that I suspected something not right & had the computerised 4 wheel alignment done & found out all the settings were out. This was after the ws (C@S) told me it had been done after changing my shocks. I learnt the hard way. Now no matter what work is done on my shocks, steering components, I wil have the proper alignment done, even if the ws told me they had already done it. Byond 1st Gear January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 since we are talking about shocks here need some advice my rear shock (right hand side) is having those ''nee nee'' sound when i go up the ramp of my mscp (turning right).... getting louder.... what could be the possible cause? i just changed my stock shocks to blistein B6 in Jan 2009. now on them for only 32,000 km only... Kianbeng Clutched January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 I am using KYB Excel G on my Latio, cost $110 per front shock and $50 per back shocks. Labour at autosavers, is $40 per front shock and $20 per back shocks. I had changed all four shocks and total $440 only. PM me if you want the contact of this supplier. $20 per back shocks? Meaning the labour for changing a pair of rear shocks cost $40? I thought thats quite cheap..... Actually there's quite some work required to change the shocks, be it rear or front. Need to clamp the springs, use a impact drill to unwind the nuts, .... Maybe next time I should check out autosavers....
Kianbeng Clutched January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 2 front Tokico (Thailand) shock absorber for $350 + $60? Is it expensive? any alternative? thanks oops not sure if it's too late. I compared tokico and kyb last time when I was changing my shocks. For my car M323, the tokico was like $10 cheaper. ie $80 and KYB was $90. I think different models car's shocks will have different prices. Not sure if there are still aftermarket hydraulic oil shocks but they are cheap and don't last. I think most of the time, original equipment still have oil shocks and so if you go to those workshops, they may recommend you pay slightly more to get air shocks. When I wanted to change the shocks that time, I realised parts was difficult to find. End up tracking all the way to OEM manufacturers and found that for the same car but at different period of time, M323 shocks were supplied by APM or KYB (or was it Tokico?) So its the same shocks but branded as "MAZDA".

Stonesix 1st Gear January 22, 2010 Share January 22, 2010 Altis are using SKYB, in short for Siam KYB. Go to the rear of your car, bend down and you can see a sticker there. Rear using SKYB but front using Toyota (OEM Tokico Gas shock, made in Thai).
