Mechanic said my front left shock is leaking and advise to change 2 front shocks. Price is $400. Is this a good/norm price? Did not ask what brand they carry. ↡ Advertisement

You can try to get cheaper shocks from aftermarket brands like KYB / Tokico if you are driving Jap vehicle, Sach / Boge for European.

Mine is exactly Altis, not the current one, the previous. Hmmm. so Autoserv is not that economical then... I went there to do my 40K service and the service package is quite good deal (compare to BM, who's not good deal right?)

Did not ask what brand they carry. ============== Unless u driving an upmarket Conti car, its very ex. Looks like the WS see u like a carrot-head. Buy good quality Jap made shocks (front 1 pr) <$200 & labour abt $50 plus only. Get your shocks checked at a honest & reliable ws for a 2nd opinion. Pisces69 6th Gear December 12, 2009 Share December 12, 2009 hmm... is there a need to align wheels after shock absorber change? else, might be good to change it at a workshop which is able to do both...change and align :) ============ After any work on your steering/shocks, get a good 4 wheel computerised alignment done. And dont trust the ws if they tell u they wil do it for u. I learnt the hard way.
Ichibawa 5th Gear December 12, 2009 Share December 12, 2009 Do you know what stock brand for the shock absorbers the Altis using? Altis are using SKYB, in short for Siam KYB. Go to the rear of your car, bend down and you can see a sticker there.
Kianbeng Clutched December 14, 2009 Share December 14, 2009 Think you should be able to get a better quote. But when you ask around for quotes, please ask what brand/model of shocks they are using. So that the comparison is fair.

So that the comparison is fair. Thanks. I should have ask for the brand indeed. On top of servicing I actually ask to have the battery, wipers and tires changed. Did not intend to change anything else that day. just that the mechanic sort of whispered to the boss whom after I asked then reveal the front shock leak. I don't feel anything while driving or going over bumps so I did not go ahead with the change but simply ask how much it cost.
Fcw75 Hypersonic December 15, 2009 Share December 15, 2009 Do you know what stock brand for the shock absorbers the Altis using? Altis is using Tokico for their shock absorbers. I saw it on my friend's Altis when he went to have his tyres changed. Anyway, either Tokico or KYB are good enuff.
