Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 18, 2009 Share July 18, 2009 the current Jaguar XJ has one of the best classic design interior...you feel soothing once you're in a jaguar, something which cannot be said in it's rivals...i think its because of the classic and simplistic design... what Jaguar has done is to make their XJ now more mainstream...and i think they will lose a lot of customers because of this...but in terms of looks, i think they still have one of the best designers... think current 2nd hand XJ6 3.0L and XJ8 3.5L and 4.2L will be selling like hot cakes...the last of classic jaguars... ↡ Advertisement
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 18, 2009 Share July 18, 2009 Aluminum can be knocked back, but it will be a tedious affair, time consuming and costly... i guess insurance for these cars can be quite high...
Jaguar Neutral Newbie July 18, 2009 Share July 18, 2009 I think knocking aluminum a little that don't cause expansion is ok, but like all metal after knocking it will expand and need flame to contract it as we can see it when panel beating. But aluminum cannot used flame. And for the alumiun there are no welding joint and everything was done by revierting to each other and this is exactly what on the airplane technology. There are no metal used even on the weheelhousing, cast alloy revierted on the chassis frame, The XK and Xj are done in this manner at the present and the weignt is slightly over one and a half ton. The car is very light for it class and therefore is more fuel efficient and responsive than the BM and Mer. Was also told that the whole car sitting on a aluminum cage
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 20, 2009 Share July 20, 2009 have your taken a look in the interior? quite ugly i must say... the dash only available in dark grey, blue, brown colours...no bright and lively colours... there is quite a bit of chrome in the interior though... petrol engines available are the 385bhp, 465bhp and 510bhp 5.0V8 versions... it should be great fun to drive, but to me, the interior is really not as good to be in compared to the previous XJ... low seats also mean having to stretch out your legs...which means you'll feel much more cramp than seated inside a S-Class or LS600hL... i'm waiting for Hyundai Equus LWB 5.0V8 450bhp, Aston martin Rapide and Lamborghini Estoque...come on! Cerano 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 Ya! The XFR is dam cool! Its performance is staggering. 0-100 in 4.6s. Thats like Audi's R8 teritory! Frankly speaking, if i hav the $$, i will get the Jag over the R8. No matter wat, i can still bring my kids to sch(whn i hav kids) in them. And, Comparing all the other german and italian makes, i will choose the Jag's XF anytime. That is if i hav the $$$ If got $$$ buy C63 AMG liaos
Notsogoodman 4th Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 i have a diff view from you. The XJ interior is pure class, beautiful and offers something very different from the 7 Series, S Class, A8, LS...... It's a design that will withstand father-time pretty well
Peaceracer 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 If got $$$ buy C63 AMG liaos Jus saw a C63 parked beside me last week. Looks nice but not sure if its real so went to see the road tax. Its freaking $7.4k/yr. Thn abt 2 minutes later, the driver(late 40s) with his wife and 2 kids came. Think he left with rpm jus abt 2000rpm and the engine roar is WOW! Sounds like some jet fighter. Sad that he nv open the tabs more. But then again, if i got the $$, i will still get the Jag, road tax cheaper, car bigger, more prestigeous, more spacious, looks more stunning and also similar performance. Vin3663 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 all cars have its unquie features and appearances of which can be appreciated by each own individuals. It's a bold facelift and has its freshing looks.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 definitely the XFR is a much better buy over the C63AMG...much more spacious and stylish...yet very discreet...looks pretty much like the normal 3.0L version of the XF... Regarding the XJ interior, i find that the dash looks too much like the Hyundai Atos, with the round air-conditioning vents...the side profile looks as if Jaguar copied the Hyundai Equus wholesale! Peaceracer 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 wad colour was it(C63) that u saw? Black color....
Peaceracer 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 I actually prefer Jag's XF interior and aircon vents. Somehow round vents seem too 'leh che'...Must turn to get the angle right.
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 but having sat in the XF, the dash design made me feel like being seated in a Kia Magentis...the rectangular air-con vents... the leather stitching on the doors makes it high class, but really it felt like soft-touch plastics, instead of leather... Jaguar only confuses people....
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 is the split view screen on both new Jaguar XJ and Mercedes S-Class a gimmick?

It is basically an Anglo vs Germanic thing. There are people out there who swear by the superiority of the English in all aspects of life: education, clothes, engineering, etc. Then there is the other camp who are infatuated with German precision engineering and solidity. I notice it is the older generation who remember how great the colonial Brits were, and stuck in that time warp, they have never noticed that the sun had long set on the British Empire in all aspects of their culture, education, science and economy. Btw, there is no Jag equivalent of the C63. The XFR is an E63 or CLS 63 fighter, and the XJR will be the S63 or S65 fighter. Somedays I will see a black CLS 55 (the pre-facelifted CLS 63) on my way to work. I think it is a supercharged V8 and god it sounds like jet engines and the acceleration is very fast. Think CLS 63 is a nice compromise between style and power and utility (4 doors). Of course, Porsche Panamera Turbo is faster but the shape not very nice lah. Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 the porsche panamera is just hideous! what are you saying about yourself being in the car? i should think the XF is the size of the C-Class interior wise...so i think it is in many ways, a competitor to the C-Class... Mercedes AMG V8 engines are a joy to drive and to be heard...really fierce exhaust note...
Cerano 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 (edited) the porsche panamera is just hideous! what are you saying about yourself being in the car? i should think the XF is the size of the C-Class interior wise...so i think it is in many ways, a competitor to the C-Class... Mercedes AMG V8 engines are a joy to drive and to be heard...really fierce exhaust note... the problem with that very engine is that its 6.3L... too expensive on our roads. 0-100 c63 AMG is faster with its 4.5 compared to XFR 4.7 Edited July 21, 2009 by Cerano
Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 21, 2009 Share July 21, 2009 but the C63AMG is a normal aspirated V8 engine VS the XFR 4.7Supercharged version... the XFR should be a more comfortable version...smooth ride which can be used on a daily basis...unlike the C63AMG ultra stiff ride...only suitable for the track... ↡ Advertisement
