Watwheels Supersonic April 22, 2009 Share April 22, 2009 I feel like it's a computer car. There are so many computer aided technology in the car. I wonder, does it have much fun as the manual. I think the auto gearbox gotto work hand in hand with the AWD system and other electronic aids. ie. If one of the wheels is slipping while the car is accelerating does the AWD system stops the auto gearbox from shifting up or does it shift down for more power while the system try to regain grip, or does the VDC(stability control) kicks in to intervene and totally cut the power off for the wheel to regain traction? Maybe that's why it took them that long to develop just one more additional gear into their gearbox. They have to reprogram & redesign the whole system. Jascyt Neutral Newbie April 22, 2009 Share April 22, 2009 Looks like a typical auto gearbox from what I gather in the article posted above. It's different from a twin-clutch manual like DSG or the evoX's sequential. Which means you get the same drivetrain power losses experienced in typical autos. Not too sure about fitting a normal auto box into a performance vehicle. Transmission stresses could bust it sooner than expected especially when owners tend to modify the cars to enhance power. Personally, I won't buy this

Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 12, 2009 Share July 12, 2009 motorimage say it will be too expensive to bring in...only on indent basis. i think there is a demand for auto sports cars, more people want to drive faster and feel the power, but living in urban city like singapore, with so many traffic lights, driving a manual car is more hindrance than fun. as long as you don't do anymore modification to the car, the transmission should be able to cope with 300bhp easily. the Sti has a comfortable ride, great for driving on a daily basis, although there is a hideous amount of body-roll. unlike the Lancer Evo with it's ultra harsh suspension, not comfortable for normal roads...use it for track days. hope subaru makes an STI version for the sedan. cefiro_dude Neutral Newbie July 12, 2009 Share July 12, 2009 (edited) I really wonder what the automotive world is coming to. Even driver's cars are becoming "convenient" and "easy to drive". I mean you buy these cars because you have a passion for driving and you wanna be engaged / part of the drive. Cars nowadays are rather fast but they're slowly failing to impart the feeling and driver involvement that's all important when you drive a performance / sports car. I mean i can understand AMGs going the auto route cos they're targeted at a different audience; one that wants a fast car partly for the thrill and partly for the posing factor. Give it a couple of years time and i think we're gonna see the demise of the stick shift, the way things are going. A pity indeed, cos nothing can really compare to shifting gears yourself. Ferraricalifornia 1st Gear July 13, 2009 Share July 13, 2009 yes manual is still more fun, but nowadays, people are also looking for usablility for such cars on a day-to-day basis... plus more youngsters crash their manual turbo cars, so manufacturers have to come out the auto versions... DSG and SST are essentially manual cars, but you drive like an auto. however, their gearshifts in crawling traffic jams will be jerky...it's slow to respond to slow engine speeds. autos are still the smoothest...or if you consider CVT as a transmission...
