It tears at your engine internals like sandblasting. Pretty soon, you get oil leak and all kinds of trouble. Still people want to pay good money to achieve 0.001 little hp and risk their engine. if wan to change to aftermarket stainless steel filter, go for CAI too... btw, Kb27 bro u tink the stock filter which is made of paper will not let in dirt like no tomorrow??? it's made of paper mind u... ↡ Advertisement

There are a number of articles in the internet and some in BITOG on this. Paper or fibre when through to the combustion chamber will be burnt off. This is unlike silica particles which do not burn off and they remain inside the engine and start to sandbast the internals. Stock is the best but in terms of considering aftermarket intake, in my opinion, Apexi would be a good choice since it is also paper. Paper is best at trapping dirt, dust and oil soot from exhaust of vans, lorries and other cars. Singapore air is not very clean. There are many unseen particles in the atmosphere. Amsyl Neutral Newbie November 20, 2009 Share November 20, 2009 Unless you are looking for gains of 1-2bhp at the top end for a typical 1.6 NA engine, changing to a new paper element at every 10K is sufficient. After all, the paper element cost $10-$20.

Bro, You mentioned "over time it sure does dmg ur engine". How sure will that be? 3 years? 5 years? 10 years? My hurricane filter has been on my Hyundai Matrix for more then 5 years. Servicing my car every 6 mths or 10k km which ever reach. Till now, I my engine still swee swee. Not to mentioned other wear and tear parts..eg: beltings. I can scrap my matrix do to its 10years full loan. So, got to endure for at least 3 more years. Every time will it comes to my oil change servicing.. my mechanic will take out the filter and blow away the dirt. Sometimes I also DIY cleaning by using water and soap to maintanence the condition of the filter. Till now, my filter still look as good as new. Before I start cleaning the filter. I can really see a lot of dirts kana trap onto the filter. Especially I came back from M'sia couple of trips. Frankly speaking, that power form type of dirts that passes through the filter with less then 40microns is not enough to harm the engine in any way for 5 1/2 years (PROVEN). So, I gonna use for another 3 more years and come back to tell ppl here the same thing again. heehee... touch wood... hope my engine will not damage within the next 3years or so. I doubt it will to harm..since I've already use it for 5 1/2 years le.
