That's why intellectual property is important..can sue for trademark infringement or passing off under common law

the developed countries have established history in IP while many countries like in asia are just waking up to it..

registered IP can be effective deterrent..imagine you think you have a new product in Singapore and you try to enter the US market only to meet with 10-20 patent notices from the competitors in the US, on the week you want to start marketing your product

having said that..being able to enforce the IP rights in China is another issue..lol

You can copy the out look, but can you have the same quality and power of a Mini?

I remenber many years back, China try to built a BOEING aircraft but they crashes as

the CG of the plane was not correct.

agree..not trying to knock Geely but the body of the Geelys sound quite hollow..not much confidence (not sure about the geely GT shown in another thread though)

Agreed. The Korean are doing the same thing now. Look at the Kia Cerato Forte, the head light copied from ?. you know lah. The rear look like anothe Japanese model.

I think is normal to copy here and there... some jap models also copy from somewhere else..

But what is irritating abt the chinese is that they copy in a more outright shameless manner... For example: the china Rolls-Royce.. or the hafei van with the BMW grill and headlights?

Rest assured that they will encounter legal issues sooner or later. [thumbsup]

They aren't afraid of the legal issues.Just look at the Neoplan bus cases.Seems like they bribed the judges!Chinese manufacturers copied 95% of other popular car makes.

You mean Perodua Kelisa? Its a rebadge Daihatsu Mira Cuore with grill and interior change to basic.Just like their Myvi similiar to Toyota Passo and Daihatsu Sirion.Perodua its 55% owned ny Daihatsu-Toyota.Hence the new MPV is similiar to Toyota Passo Sette. [thumbsup]

Neutral Newbie

Actually chinese car manufacturers like not scared of copying.. Their Chery QQ also copy Chevy Spark... hahaah

In fact, Cherry is a direct copy of Chevy....

Chevy sued but then later got cold feet.. Maybe scared China dun allow Chevy to sell in their country... Lost Chinese market very siong. So they backed out..

What to do? CHina tai kor!

Can't imagine Geely now owns Volvo and the hollow body if Volvo.

Turbocharged

When Perodua Kelisa first came out, people also said it was trying to look like a mini. A cheaper version nonetheless.
