Ad23 Neutral Newbie April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 Hi bros. Just wondering if any of you bros here have any tips on how we can extend the 'range' of our car alarm? Say for example, stock allows us to be able to activate our alarm system when we are 10m away ... Let's say if we do some mod to the system, we're able to activate our alarm when we are 20m away ... Any one got any tips? ↡ Advertisement
Watwheels Supersonic April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 (edited) There are 2 way alarms that have a range of 1000m and more. Check on one of our sponsors. Alarms are mostly on radio frequency, if you want to "improve the range" line of sight between your remote and car usually helps. Any one got any tips? You can try this tip right now for free. Walk away from your car until your remote no longer arms / disarms your car alarm. Now push your transmiter under your chin. Try again. See how much further your range has increased.
Ad23 Neutral Newbie April 14, 2009 Author Share April 14, 2009 Hey bro. thanks for the reply. The thing is I recently installed this device called URES on my ride but I notice the range is kinda bad. This URES works 1 way so 2 way alarms are kinda out for me now cos I just installed it a few days ago. I tried to google but didn't get any favourable replies. Watwheels Supersonic April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 There are lots of obstacles between your remote and your car which will affect the frequency range. Unless you can park your car in such a way that your remote has a direct line of sight to your car, your range will be improved.
Ad23 Neutral Newbie April 14, 2009 Author Share April 14, 2009 err yes bro ... that will work but won't I be getting weird looks/stares from people?
Nohnemwan 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 err yes bro ... that will work but won't I be getting weird looks/stares from people? You mean you don't know how to do something like that discreetly? You don't have to shout to everyone Hey Look At Me I'm Pressing My Remote Under My Chin! If you have such a thin skin, so worried about what others think, then go ahead and spend the money.
Ad23 Neutral Newbie April 14, 2009 Author Share April 14, 2009 I know it will work but I am looking more for adding an 'extra' antenna in my a-pillar ... Thanks for your reply nonetheless.

Ad23 Neutral Newbie April 14, 2009 Author Share April 14, 2009 Wah ... you created an account just to post this? Yes I know how to do it discreetly. What I would prefer is the 'addition' of an extra antenna in the a-pillar.

Nohnemwan 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 I know it will work but I am looking more for adding an 'extra' antenna in my a-pillar ... Thanks for your reply nonetheless. Go ahead and encase the antenna in the A-pillar. And then you will know for sure that it won't work. But don't let good advice deter you. Find out for yourself. Of course if your A-pillar is made of fibreglass your idea just might work.
DarkLord 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 This actually does work lorz.. But with current remote without an antenna, it doesn't..

Watwheels Supersonic April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 Adding an antenna won't be of much help without boosting the power or amplifying the frequency transmission.
Oregon 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 1) New batteries 2) If you open the transmitter remote, there is a little variable resistor. This can be tuned to optimse the frequency and range. You have to use a non metalic screwdriver. You can make one from a toothpick by sharpening the end into a flat blade. 3) Start near the car and move out, adjusting this screw with very fine movements and on/off the alarm as you walk away. If you loose the signal you have to walk back to the car and start again. 4) I can lock my car from 24 stories up with direct line of sight. Typically you can get about 30-50 meters. 5) Not all remotes are the same and I take no responsibility if you screw up your set. 6) Good luck! Nohnemwan 1st Gear April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 This actually does work lorz.. But with current remote without an antenna, it doesn't.. My remote DOES NOT have an antenna. Placing the remote against my chin DOES extend the range of my remote. The method works. For those who would have not tried it but would rather just criticise away, try it first before saying any more. It has been discussed here: http://ask.metafilter.com/39414/Alarm-Remo...cation-via-head http://www.tfproject.org/tfp/tilted-knowle...n-trick-do.html http://www.instructables.com/id/Increase-t...remote-control/
