Just an update.

My wife enrolled in the CC cooking lesson near our place and last nite was the 1st lesson. Its S$55 for 8 lessons of chinese restaurant cooking.

According to her:

The cooking is done by the teacher and they were given notes to keep up with the lesson. They would crowd ard the stove as the teacher prepare the ingredients. The aunties were pretty territorial...

did she tell u abt the attendees who asked the teacher everythig and anything ?? eg, like where to buy Sunquik concentrate or chilli sauce or soya sauce ? [sweatdrop]

Nope. Out of the 15 of them, only my wife and another lady is beginner. The rest are all aunties and they are good at cooking themselves. [sweatdrop] These aunties really have too much time on their hands. [shakehead]

Went to the CC b4 but the cooking class there are more for those who already know how to cook. No basic cooking lessons.

I need to be introduced to the various spices, veggies, parts of meats, etc........ I only know how a chilli looks like and the rest are stranger to me. [lipsrsealed]

then you should walk around supermarkets to familiarise yourself with the different types of ingredients and spices and meats and vegetables and fishes

Hi,

Any recommendations of cooking classes for beginers?

Very elementary time for people with totally no background.

Thanks!!

mother is the best tuitor...... flexible timing, no tuition fees... but if mother cant cook, the mother in law is the 2nd best choice,,,,

personally, no point learning how to cook, if u don't cook frequently, or else u r just wasting the knowledge u have paid to learn, not to mention the time invested.

I've never attended any cooking classes, but i read cookbooks and i watch cooking shows. Most imptly, as a househusband, i cook daily, almost every single meal. When u cook that often, u have a chance to practice and refine the recipes and correct mistakes made "the last time".

Anyone wanna see more pics? hehe

I tink I had put the wrong message across.

What I need is some basic cooking lessons that intro me and my wife to the various spices, cooking styles and so on. We do not want to go to a cooking class and just follow what the chef is doing. Like monkey see monkey do.

We need someone to teach us the basic so that we can create our own dishes or make our instant noodles more delicious rather than just add in the msg packet.

Something like when I order noodles at food centre, they would do a mix of sauces. Then put the noodle in hot water, then into cold water and then into hot water. Take out, put in bowl of pre-mix and stir it. Add garnish + fish ball + mince meat. And serve to customer.

Last sunday, my wife n I tried to cook mee rubus. Bought the instant mix from supermarket and did it. End result, it was tasteless and yucky!!! We threw away the remaining and had tibits for dinner. [lipsrsealed]

i dont mind teaching you the basics f.o.c,but it has to be done at your kitchen

and you pay for ingredients.

oh im a jap chef by the way.

cooking is actually quite fun especially when your loved ones say your cooking is nice [thumbsup]

the only downside is the washing of utensils sucks.....

key to good cooking are

-good & fresh ingredients

-patience

-put in heart and soul, the cooking will turn out fine..... [flowerface]
