Wheels offset pros & cons

as of topic, lets say if we deviate from e manufacturer's spec of offset, wats e pros(if any) n cons of it??? For discussion purpose, take for eg. original states 55mm offset n u replaced e wheels wif a 40mm, sure it look gd wif e wheels now more closer to e fenders. But wat may b e cons of it technically??? [confused]

for your example, the con is that the outside of the tire may rub against the fender during bumps at high speed. and the more offset, the more strain it will put onto the suspension system. i don't quite know how to explain this part, perhaps you can try visualizing.

and the more offset, the more strain it will put onto the suspension system,don really understand tis prt. do u mean wif 2 wheels closer to each other (58mm offset) puts more strain, or 2 wheels further apart(40mm) puts more strain...?? [drivingcar]

furthermore, wif e difference in offset, wat chge in handling characteristic will we experience wif e 2 wheels now further apart??? [:)]

wider apart = more strain on suspension and other parts supporting the wheels.

+ plus steering heavier n less self centering aft full lock. correct mi if i wrong :mellow:
