Thestig Clutched April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 On the way home yesterday (06/04/09), after the Benjamin Sheares bridge on the ECP towards Airport at about 1830 hrs, I witnessed a Toyota Crown Silvercab..I think rearend a dark blue Opel Vectra Hatchback in Lane 4. I was driving about 20 metres in the 3rd lane and I saw that this dark blue Opel was trying to filter into the entrance of the KPE but was unable to do so because the traffic was not giving it way. Suddenly, the Opel came to a complete stop when it got close to the separating barrier and the taxi slammed into the back of this car. I think the taxi driver did not expect it as the road was clear infront of the Opel. So... I'm doing my civic duty by willing to be a witness for the taxi. I don't think he would be able to win the case but at least the blame won't be 100% his. If there are taxi uncles here or something, you can inform your brethren. I didn't post this in the taxi forum (Seems dead there). ↡ Advertisement

Speeddemon Neutral Newbie April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 (edited) I share your view.... I just can't understand why they cannot simply make a U-turn down the road or a detour. They have already missed the exit or turn....forget about trying to squeeze in and make a detour.....its just going to be an additional couple of minutes in their journey....they'd rather risk an accident then add a couple of minutes to their journey? Some of these are really dramatic.....not just jam brake.....but cutting accross like 2 or 3 lanes at a pace that even a snail can beat.....frantically signalling and hoping against hope that they can part the traffic like what someone can do for the red sea...... Bicolor 5th Gear April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 But still, the driver of the vehicle behind should be prepared at all times for others in front to jam brake or do reckless or stupid things.

Normally these are ladies. I know people is going to flame me for saying this, but my very own experience is that 8 out of 10 cars that need to filter frantically are driven by ladies. Either they never plan their route or well, they are just poor in their genes when comes to navigation.
Thestig Clutched April 7, 2009 Author Share April 7, 2009 Well...I'm hoping with my testimony that the full blame does not fall with the driver as the Opel driver, did not signal intentions and just suddenly stopped. I know that the back vehicle will take the blame but perhaps this could mitigate this. I am also wondering if the car infront was trying to cross into the KPE entrance by going over the chevron markings as well. I'll check it out on the way home. Also, I usually take that lane myself when I exit at Fort Road right after that, so it could easily have been me yesterday, somehow I decided to stick the middle lane instead. Anyway, the opel could easily have taken the fort rd exit, make a u-turn and get back on the ECP and enter the KPE from the other side.

Ronnchee Clutched April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 (edited) 1. Saw a pickup trying to reverse out of the CTE towards City in PIE when he was at least 150m into the lane. 2. Saw a lorry trying to reverse out of KPE towards Punggol in Geylang. He succeeded. Edited April 7, 2009 by Ronnchee
Josho 1st Gear April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 I dun think the blaming of taxi driver is fair though been behind of the car. Who really want an accident after all? Yes, alert is indeed but with complete stop on expressway is way stupid. This also apply when I was on my way to TMC from PIE, there's one crazy driver who did not move after the traffic turn green and attempt to move from lane 2 to 4! Just to enter the filter lane toward balestier. Isn't that stupid enough and make a sudden turn? There's U turn in front, for goodness sake!
Doosan 1st Gear April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 biggest problem is they hv never stop talking---never on phone, or simply 2sum1 inside. thus overshooooot then make mata buta turn , source of aciden
Doosan 1st Gear April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 it seems very common now a day tat when traffic turns green, 1st car infront always stalled, starts 2move after sum1 starting horning them. maybe e driver waiting greenlight to be more greener or wat....... Leepee 1st Gear April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 That Opel is a lousy driver who thinks that the whole world owe her the filtering obligation! The taxi driver did correctly to bang into the opel. This will teach the driver to be more cinsiderate in future!

I think the most stupid are those who are using the entrance lane to get into expressways where if the entrance lane is 300m long, they die die must filter into the expressway in the first 30-50 meters. So, all traffic just stuck there. Why can't they make use of the entire length of that lane to filter in slowly? This is very prominent in the morning from Braddel road into CTE. The entrance lane is like 300-400m long but everyone just cramped into the first 30-50m dying to get into the expressway first. Why?? There is another 250m length ahead just to filter in for god sake.
