Mkl22 Supersonic April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 Hi Guys, My ride miledge is ~ 65,000km, 3+ yrs. Any preventive maintenance for the aircon recommended? Checked with AD & their reply was "don't need to do anything unless something is wrong". your AD is somewhat right, there is not much to do. compressor oil is already added in when they manufacture the car. there is no need to add more. adding too much will cause too much oil in the system and affect cooling. the car A/C is just like your home one. just clean the filter if you have one. Those without filters should strip the evaporator out every 2-3yrs to clean the dirt off it. Any decent A/C shop will be able to then regas the system and add the appropriate compressor oil. Freifeit Neutral Newbie April 6, 2009 Share April 6, 2009 If u have the air-cond filter, get it inspected. Replace it if it's dirty. No need to clean the coil as the dust has been filtered out by filter. No doubt the compressor oil is still there but it will get dirty after some times. It's good to vacuum the compressor and recharge the refrigerant + oil.
Donut Supercharged April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 i guess yr car is no longer under warranty? if it's still under warranty, get the AD to change yr compressor asap. i think it's free. becuase the original compressor may not last you longer than 5 years. Byond 1st Gear April 7, 2009 Share April 7, 2009 change ur air con filter regular at every 10k km will prolong the life of the air con compressor. if u need lobang for air con filter, let me know, I can pm u the contact of a guy who is selling ... Tan Chong would have charge u S$60 to S$80 plus for one pc of aftermarket filter (which may not even be of the same design, in the case of latio...)... whereas u can get it for less than S$20 plus FOC installation. As for compressor lubricant, if ur air con compressor is making those noise, add one can of air con lubricant if ur air con is not cold, just top up the air con gas... Thats about it if air con still working fine...change the air con filter will be more than enough...
Friedpiggy 2nd Gear April 8, 2009 Share April 8, 2009 change ur air con filter regular at every 10k km will prolong the life of the air con compressor. As for compressor lubricant, if ur air con compressor is making those noise, add one can of air con lubricant hello, just some points i am wondering about what you mentioned, Air con filter is the one whereby it filters the air past the blower into your cabin right? How does air con filter not being changed affect the compressor? They dun't seem to be linked? and Where do you add air con lubricant? Thanks. Sky8807 1st Gear April 9, 2009 Share April 9, 2009 (edited) If nothing wrong, no action required. If you try to do maintenance like cleaning the evaporater, maybe when the item removed for cleaning will cost you more if found leaking after the cleaning and leak test. Adrianli Hypersonic April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 and Where do you add air con lubricant? It is added thru the low pressure connection. Connect a high-low pressure gauge to the system, connect it to a refrigent bottle. Purge the hose of air and dip one end of the hose in the lubricant. Slowly open the valve at the gauge and the system will suck the lubricant in. Look at the sight glass while filling and fill till half the sight glass only. If u got no experience, please let the proper A/C techincian do the job. I have done it b4 for aircon system and refrigerator.
Adrianli Hypersonic April 14, 2009 Share April 14, 2009 My advise is if it aint broken, dont fix it. Only maintenance is to clean the condensor with water, look at the sight glass and ensure that the filter drier is not choke. Thatz all, otherwise u will get more headaches. Agree. The air con compressor oil need to be topped up or replaced...just like engine oil. Other parts tat may need to be replace or serviced are evaporator, gas, etc.... I think a lot of ADs no longer maintain other parts of the car except for replacing engine oil, oil filter, etc....Most don't even replace gearbox oil/ATF, fuel filter, replace brake fluid, coolant, etc....
