Don forget that Rx8 Drink engine oil too. Every 2 weeks gotta top up. Its the rotary engine common thing.

that is not true, if service every 5000 km, still ok.

i guess could be the type of engine oil used. i only use normal mineral oil

this question is like asking do u think in singapore, it is bettter to eat chicken rice or eat hokkien mee better ?

it is all up to the individual's preference. EAch has its own personality and quirks which would appeal to it's own fans. [flowerface]

each car, if driven enthusicatically and mantained well , will reward both RX8 and WRX drivers with years of motoring pleasure [drivingcar]

True bro...TS should go for test drive for both cars and compare the performances and handling.

If the heart wanted the RX8 and the head wanted a WRX ...man you have to decide money can buy... [thumbsup]

In terms of power delivery, I think the WRX is better, max torque you dun have to rev the nuts off the turbo 4pot.

If you buy the RX8 from AD you only have the choice of 6sp auto. The rotary engine is also kinda "unique".

It's an odd ball comparison. I think the more suitable candidate should be the Evo X which is also a turbo 4pot.

I agree with what the bros above have said.

Im driving a rx8 but honestly, if u compared it to a wrx 2.5 objectively. Power wise, its a no brainer.

rx8 high spec jdm 250bhp is close to 105k and rex is 86k. Close to 20k of difference. The aftermkt support for rex is way heaps ahead of rx8. Futhermore, rx8 is a rotary engine, in which only a few garage in singapore are willing to even touch.

Maintanance wise, i would say rx8 would be cheaper, coz even tho rx8 drinks petrol, wrx is nonetheless still a TC car, fc for both would be close to 6-8. Road tax for rx8 is considered under 1300cc, so u save a couple of hundreds over there.

Looking aside power, handling wise, awd car will be theorically be faster than a rwd, but honestly, imo if u ask ard, awd cars take away the joy of driving. Everything will be taken care off by the car electronics, sometimes u will just wondered, am i gd or is the car gd, am i fast, or is the car fast.

Image wise, i would say, majority of the ppl not all would prefer the rx8 bcoz its a coupe and sleeker than the sedan looking wrx. And there is a general sterotype regarding rex drivers being ricers.

Reliability not a problem, they did a test on the renesis engine, did a 24 hrs endurance run in stock condition, no issues. So both engines are gd.

Space wise, rx8 boot can put 2 golf bags in without any trouble, but still its a coupe, its alot lower and smaller. Maximun 4 seater, whereas rex is a sedan.

If u are willing, the inbetween of these 2 cars will be the civic type r.

If u need further info, just ask me.

Both cars have their pros/cons. I was in your exact same shoes a year ago, deciding between the WRX and RX8. Rex = easily modifiable with more power to be juiced. 8 = only way to squeeze decent bhp is via FI, expensive and illegal.

I guess in the end, the asthetics and image factor won me over outright power desires.

The rotary engine is a very interesting bit of technology that requires an aquired taste to appreciate. Handling however is undisputedly one of the best in the market today. 50-50 weight distribution and RWD. Fun to drive around the twisties as well :D

Go test both cars and decide from there. It boils down to what you want. Cheers :)

agreed totally, 4 persons no prob...

after driving the 8 for a few years , u will be looking for a beemer soon...no doubt good driving dynamics plus a more solid chasis for the German car.

The 8 engine is reliable, normally other things will fail rather than the engine, which is a matter of probability for all cars.

now with 6-spped auto, i guess the transmission will be smoother.

u know the choice

Any Bro konw which is better ? [bounce1]

Looks is subjective, as it depends on individual's perception. Power is formulated, therefore not subjective.

So if power is not a big need, then u are left with looks. If you think the 8 look better, get the 8. If u think the WRX look better, get the Rex.

All else are comparable. WRX can magnet the WRX gals, RX8 can magnet the RX8 gals. Running cost will also be about the same, due to difference in Road Tax, Insurance, Maintenance, Consumption, and mods. So all these factors can be eliminated.

As for engine oil top up. Every 2 mths when I see the dipstick almost low, I am due for servicing. whoever needs to top up engine oil, I guess must be leaking, or they using expensive oil that promise 8k mileage per service. I use cheapo mineral oil that requires changing every 5k. BTW, I realize the car is a lot smoother and consumption is better after servicing; 420km vs 380km when car almost due for servicing, so servicing cost is absorbed by consumption savings.

The rx-8 in your DP is your car? I saw your car at LSTA about 2 months back... must say it's damn chio! I'm in the blue colour STI... getting my alignment done.

To TS, I was in your shoes awhile back. In terms of reliability, it's going to be subaru hands down. The general consensus is that Subaru is more reliable and it ranks quite high even in reliability tests and surveys (way above mitsubishi and mazda, just 1 slot above toyota). The thing that sealed the reliability deal w/ me is that my friend with a 03 STI, moderately modded, whack and track VERY regularly... and yet the only thing that he has to change besides the fluids involved in regularly servicing, is a power steering pump (common problem with rexes) and it's STILL going fine.

If you are talking about looks and chick magnet, RX8 hands down... but depends on whether you need the help of a sweet car to pick up chicks or not. It's torqueless as well... does not have kickback feeling.

Edit: I'm getting between 7.5(minimum) to 8.9Km/l
