These traffic lights are counterfeit/fake lights. They are not real traffic lights.....you dont need to follow them. They are nothing but colourful street lamps.

The real traffic lights are the ones that have a camera just like the TS mentioned.

I understand why we have to stop at red light camera, but do we really have to stop when there are obvious evidence that there is not a single soul crossing the road and your lights are red in favor of you ?

Please comment above video and tell me why we have such a situation ?

Do you think we should have a better, smarter traffic light system ?

Do you think Singapore has just way too much traffic lights ?

If zebra crossing were to replace this traffic light in the video I posted, do you think it will be better ?

In fact, it wasn't me alone.

Watch the video and see why many drivers are thinking this way.

we help you submit video to TP and let them comment ok?

we comment no use one...

I am very special person.. I will post controversial unacceptable out of social responsibilities videos to invoke some thinking and discussion.

I prefer not to say who is right or wrong. But I'm just stating the traffic system and objective of the whole traffic light network.

I know they have scholars designing it. But how come you realize everytime you drive pass a long road with multiple traffic lights, the lights ALWAYS turns red when you approached them ?

Is it meant to be this way, to make all cars stop at EACH traffic light so that you can stop driving and check your Whatsapp message ?

Why didn't they have a GREEN WAVE traffic light so that all cars moving along the same direction would be moving smoothly ahead instead of STOP & GO , STOP & GO ?

There must be a real reason behind this.

In a studies conducted , a green wave actually improves traffic flow and reduces traffic jams and bottle necks.

By adjusting the timing of the traffic lights, vehicle speed can be regulated and thus enhance driving and pedestrian safeties.

But of course I'm sure our scholars knew about this too. Im no scholars.. not a university grad.. but I have a mouse click in Google.  [laugh]

In brief, let me explain the purpose of the GREEN WAVE traffic light.

A green wave will be in favor of cars moving OUT of city area, or congested location, such as Orchard, Shenton, Etc.

All cars who intend to drive out of these location will not see a disruptive red traffic light occurring too often.

Each car, when travellled aat stipulated speed limit, will approach a traffic light GREEN.

A red wave, as oppose to the green wave, will be very disruptive to drivers entering such location.

This is to discourage large numbers of cars congesting the already crowded Orchard, Shenton etc.

When driven within speed limit, these cars will see red traffic lights more often ( NOT everytime, but just more often, randomly ).

Hope this makes sense..

Oh like that means you totally agree that the traffic light turns red we must 100% stop and not move.

Just a question, what is in your mind thinking when you are the only car, stopping at a red light, nobody crossing the road, no other cars around, people are watching you and thinking likewise ?   :XD:

I cannot understand what you are think, and most people think, when they stopped for nothing... care to explain ?

Perhaps you can convince me .. somehow..  [laugh]

I think this set of traffic light camera flashed too early.

In my own opinion, I am sure there is something wrong with the timing of the system.

I believe as you crossed the double white lines to enter the yellow junction box, the lights are still in amber.

Flash lights don't trigger at amber. It triggers flash when you CROSS after the double white lines in RED.

Obviously this is not just a junction traffic light. This is a pedestrian traffic light.

Someone must have activated it and crossed it (or decided not to cross it) before the involved cars enter the scene.

By saying the 2 cars that beat the redlight are smart, is a direct implication that the one that stopped is stupid?

Sorry to say, I am stupid in these scenario. But my comments to the "smart ones", where are you rushing to with that 10 seconds saved?

The number of traffic lights and traffic light junctions in Singapore has become counter-productive to the driving situation in Singapore.

This is due to the lazy planning of the LTA. They have intentionally made the majority of the traffic light sequence into a "drive for less than 30 secs and stop for 1 minute" situation.

This can be easily observed in everyone's daily commute. Even those taking taxis and buses will witness this.

Nice theory. Probably will get the Nobel prize if it is meant to be used in a laboratory only.

In REAL life, you have different type of cars, different type of drivers, different type of acceleration, different idea of safe driving distance, road hoggers, tail gaiters, auntie drivers, uncle drivers, ah beng drivers.......what wave?

Hypersonic

just careful with the red light camera at Aljunie Road (towards serangoon)...

there is additional "traffic stop line" confusing ppl who don't drive there often.

When traffic turned amber to red, a car infront continued (thought the traffic line was in front) which in fact behind him...kana photo session

this is not a theory.. it was a study conducted and it was proven in a country NOT called Singapore.

In real life, because of the stoopiak red light, nobody bothers to accelerate off briskly, or drive at the proper speed anymore, BECAUSE WE ALREADY KNEW THE NEXT LIGHT IS GOING TO BE RED.

Maybe I drive in different part of Singapore than you.

I experienced 30% of the time I managed to get from my home to the expressway (3 junction and traffic lights in total) all green. did not even stop for a second. Of course those times are when there are minimal vehicle traffic in front of me to slow and force me to follow behind them. As I said, you add more cars on the road, you add more variables and you will never achieve your "green wave" theory.

It is not about the Green wave Red wave, it is about the red tape. If it aint broken, don’t fix it.

Looking at the recent report Tesla case, who wants to be the hero and step up to the occasion?

Look further on, one said 6 minutes or later then should be deemed as disruption while taking a jibe at commuters, saying a minute late will already garnered 100 tweets. Well, he has point but coming from him seems uncalled for while he sits in his ivory tower and pointing fingers.

Obviously rushing to meet, for the last time, their loved ones, after an accident with the smart ones...

Coz the smart ones are so tuned to treat red as an indication of "go ahead, no need to stop".

What you are contradicting to my green wave as such is that 70% of the time you DID NOT meet the green wave... and here you are trying to convince me that otherwise ? Hmmm.... care to explain further on that 70%, if I had misinterpreted you ?

I have no need to google. Read it eons ago. Did not believe in it then and did not believe in it now.

On contrary I live where the air is freshest. But I have to defend West side people, they definitely have more common sense than some.

Read carefully, LTA did not implement the greenwave just for my route for 30% of the time, yet I am able to debunk your suggestion that we need to stop at every redlight.
