Obey_my_dog 2nd Gear March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 These traffic lights are counterfeit/fake lights. They are not real traffic lights.....you dont need to follow them. They are nothing but colourful street lamps. The real traffic lights are the ones that have a camera just like the TS mentioned.

But how come you realize everytime you drive pass a long road with multiple traffic lights, the lights ALWAYS turns red when you approached them ? Is it meant to be this way, to make all cars stop at EACH traffic light so that you can stop driving and check your Whatsapp message ? Why didn't they have a GREEN WAVE traffic light so that all cars moving along the same direction would be moving smoothly ahead instead of STOP & GO , STOP & GO ? There must be a real reason behind this. In a studies conducted , a green wave actually improves traffic flow and reduces traffic jams and bottle necks. By adjusting the timing of the traffic lights, vehicle speed can be regulated and thus enhance driving and pedestrian safeties. But of course I'm sure our scholars knew about this too. Im no scholars.. not a university grad.. but I have a mouse click in Google. In brief, let me explain the purpose of the GREEN WAVE traffic light. A green wave will be in favor of cars moving OUT of city area, or congested location, such as Orchard, Shenton, Etc. All cars who intend to drive out of these location will not see a disruptive red traffic light occurring too often. Each car, when travellled aat stipulated speed limit, will approach a traffic light GREEN. A red wave, as oppose to the green wave, will be very disruptive to drivers entering such location. This is to discourage large numbers of cars congesting the already crowded Orchard, Shenton etc. When driven within speed limit, these cars will see red traffic lights more often ( NOT everytime, but just more often, randomly ). Hope this makes sense..

Oh like that means you totally agree that the traffic light turns red we must 100% stop and not move. Just a question, what is in your mind thinking when you are the only car, stopping at a red light, nobody crossing the road, no other cars around, people are watching you and thinking likewise ? I cannot understand what you are think, and most people think, when they stopped for nothing... care to explain ? Perhaps you can convince me .. somehow.. I believe as you crossed the double white lines to enter the yellow junction box, the lights are still in amber. Flash lights don't trigger at amber. It triggers flash when you CROSS after the double white lines in RED.

Obey_my_dog 2nd Gear March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 (edited) The number of traffic lights and traffic light junctions in Singapore has become counter-productive to the driving situation in Singapore. This is due to the lazy planning of the LTA. They have intentionally made the majority of the traffic light sequence into a "drive for less than 30 secs and stop for 1 minute" situation. This can be easily observed in everyone's daily commute. Even those taking taxis and buses will witness this. In REAL life, you have different type of cars, different type of drivers, different type of acceleration, different idea of safe driving distance, road hoggers, tail gaiters, auntie drivers, uncle drivers, ah beng drivers.......what wave? Sunny Hypersonic March 7, 2016 Share March 7, 2016 just careful with the red light camera at Aljunie Road (towards serangoon)... there is additional "traffic stop line" confusing ppl who don't drive there often. When traffic turned amber to red, a car infront continued (thought the traffic line was in front) which in fact behind him...kana photo session

Maybe I drive in different part of Singapore than you. I experienced 30% of the time I managed to get from my home to the expressway (3 junction and traffic lights in total) all green. did not even stop for a second. Of course those times are when there are minimal vehicle traffic in front of me to slow and force me to follow behind them. As I said, you add more cars on the road, you add more variables and you will never achieve your "green wave" theory.

Looking at the recent report Tesla case, who wants to be the hero and step up to the occasion? Look further on, one said 6 minutes or later then should be deemed as disruption while taking a jibe at commuters, saying a minute late will already garnered 100 tweets. But I have to defend West side people, they definitely have more common sense than some.
