Why didn't they have a GREEN WAVE traffic light so that all cars moving along the same direction would be moving smoothly ahead instead of STOP & GO , STOP & GO ?

Green wave is nice.

Obviously LTA does not think so.

They like to create RED wave, so 10~20 cars are nicely collected at every traffic light junction.... waiting.

If there seemed to be a Green wave appearing, they will put a pedestrian crossing in-between traffic junctions and intentionally make it a RED wave.

The reason is LTA is probably thinking cars are safer when they are NOT moving and nicely collected in traffic light boxes.

Or  make them move so slow, that they are just hobbling from one red to another.

Everyone is "safe".

So, forget about Green wave. It won't happen.

I understand why we have to stop at red light camera, but do we really have to stop when there are obvious evidence that there is not a single soul crossing the road and your lights are red in favor of you ?

Please comment above video and tell me why we have such a situation ?

Do you think we should have a better, smarter traffic light system ?

Do you think Singapore has just way too much traffic lights ?

If zebra crossing were to replace this traffic light in the video I posted, do you think it will be better ?

In fact, it wasn't me alone.

Watch the video and see why many drivers are thinking this way.

if you have zebra crossing instead, then when school dismissal, you can forget about crossing the road for very very long time...

so your suggestion is only to convenience yourself at that particular point in time?

This is so retarded don't you think so .. ?

Well, at least, if they can have sensors so that red lights turns green quickly when the system realize that there were no people using the pedestrian crossings and there were cars waiting at the red light for no purposes, other than to kill time and hogging up the rest of the cars behind.

Of course you are, again speculating...

Schools have road marshals / wardens to assist in the traffic flow.

Right on another side of this road, there is a school.  And I don't see any issue with that when children tries to get across the road.

As a traffic warden of the school, they knew when to stop the cars, when to stop the children from crossing.

What you are assuming is there are 10 classes of 40 students crossing the zebra crossing like herds of zebra crossing the Sahara desert

Don't worry, I am sure most schools in Singapore, during class dismissal, will have personnel to make sure parents do not block the streets while picking up kids, cars are stopped at crossings, and teacher's cars are able to exit the school gate compound without inconvenience.

this is not a theory.

this is a study and was conducted.

this doesnt belong to me.

The evidence is here, as I helped you Googled.. now you don't need to search, just click and read.

If you really believe you are right, post your car pic with registration number. Nothing will happen, right?

If not, I would think you are trolling. Then not so nice already.  -_-

This is a troll.

This is a flame baiter.

That's what you guys said anyway.. because some people refuse to read the facts that I posted in the links and call it impossible.

Just because the frog was still stuck in the well, doesn't mean the sky is 1 metre in diameter and round.

I think quite a lot of pedestrian crossings already have the push buttons installed on traffic light poles, so pedestrians have to push to get the "green man" to appear. While waiting at a red light, you can check the news, call/text a loved one, no need to get so worked up over a red light...

Policies are made by people who thnks they are right and to achieve a certain goal.

It does not mean it is good or better for the rest of us who have to obey, regardless.

We have such a situation because of impatient people like you lo. Must be an impatient pedestrian who press the button first. Then when it is obvious that there is no cars on the road anymore, he decided to cross the road.

I am very special person.. I will post controversial unacceptable out of social responsibilities videos to invoke some thinking and discussion.

I prefer not to say who is right or wrong. But I'm just stating the traffic system and objective of the whole traffic light network.

I know they have scholars designing it. But how come you realize everytime you drive pass a long road with multiple traffic lights, the lights ALWAYS turns red when you approached them ?

Is it meant to be this way, to make all cars stop at EACH traffic light so that you can stop driving and check your Whatsapp message ?

Why didn't they have a GREEN WAVE traffic light so that all cars moving along the same direction would be moving smoothly ahead instead of STOP & GO , STOP & GO ?

There must be a real reason behind this.

In a studies conducted , a green wave actually improves traffic flow and reduces traffic jams and bottle necks.

By adjusting the timing of the traffic lights, vehicle speed can be regulated and thus enhance driving and pedestrian safeties.

But of course I'm sure our scholars knew about this too. Im no scholars.. not a university grad.. but I have a mouse click in Google.  [laugh]

In brief, let me explain the purpose of the GREEN WAVE traffic light.

A green wave will be in favor of cars moving OUT of city area, or congested location, such as Orchard, Shenton, Etc.

All cars who intend to drive out of these location will not see a disruptive red traffic light occurring too often.

Each car, when travellled aat stipulated speed limit, will approach a traffic light GREEN.

A red wave, as oppose to the green wave, will be very disruptive to drivers entering such location.

This is to discourage large numbers of cars congesting the already crowded Orchard, Shenton etc.

When driven within speed limit, these cars will see red traffic lights more often ( NOT everytime, but just more often, randomly ).

Hope this makes sense..

bro. i recognise your view, cos at my factory area, the cross junction is quite deserted and the traffic lights, too long for a deserted junction like this. Then again, it only applies when I'm first in line and most probably the only one, most parts of the day, I have trailers, 40 footers, day dreamers in front of me and the long-ish traffic light becomes too short for my liking.

The point is this, traffic lights are there for a reason in our built up areas, these traffic lights are not erected for drivers' convenience but for pedestrians. Maybe 9 times out of 10, that traffic light crossing would be deserted, but on the 10th time when we become complacent, an accident happens.

There is also a reason why sensors are built underneath the tarmac at controlled junctions, to activate/shorten the traffic light timings when a car is stopped on top of the sensors. There are also junctions where you'll see signs that tells drivers the lights timing will change at different parts of the day.

The thing about our powers that are, they are reactive rather than proactive and when they are proactive, it's usually never good, so what's the lesser of the two evils?

There is no doubt about the studies you cited, but if you look at the car ownership of Copenhagen, it is even more expensive than Singapore with their taxes, which is why large percentage of them cycle.

Compare apple to apple and you'll realise that it isn't all that bad.

Lastly, we are all amused not by your reasons, but by the video of which, we assume you are the WRX in the video, you blatantly ignored the red light. That is the problem.
