Road Hogging and he doesn't know

Why can't people just give way ?

When someone come up fast behind me on lane 1 and I do not want to speed up, i signal to filter left. (Unless of course it's bumper to bumper in front. )

If I want to go fast again, just filter right to lane 1.

What's so difficult. If any1 decide to play the role to police other drivers in this case, join the tp, otherwise just be gracious.

Road hogging: The plot thickens

I REFER to the letter by Mr Wilson Choo "Just As Dangerous: Speed cameras should be used to catch road hoggers as well" on Saturday.

I think I am the road hogger he referred to and below is my version of the story.

First, I wish to clarify that I was travelling at about 90kmh at that time. The reason I kept to the right lane was because there were vehicles travelling at lower speeds in the centre lane, and I did not wish to swing in and out of the lanes.

When Mr Choo flashed his headlight the first time, I increased my speed. When he flashed the headlight again, I increased my speed further. However, that still didn't seem to satisfy him, and worse, this time he switched on the high beam, which shined straight into my rear-view mirror.

Annoyed by his behaviour and also since it was dangerous to drive with the high-beam light directly in my eyes, I switched on the hazard lights and decided to slow down.

Now, who is just as dangerous?

Who turned the expressway into a racetrack and who disregarded the safety of other road users?

Steven Goh

Mr Steven Goh was wrong in the first place to travel on the right most lane even if he is travelling at 90km/h as it is an overtaking lanes and meant for vehicles needing to overtake slower travelling vehicles such as his. He should be travelling on the centre lane if he intend to keep to the speed limit. When the faster motorist came up behind him, Mr Goh is frustrating the other driver by not moving out of the lane. In my opinion switching on the hazard light and even slowly down is both dangerous and silly as it could cause a car pileup if there were other equally fast moving vehicles behind.

You are in the wrong Mr Goh. And your actions were dangerous to yourself and others. Pls think abt it.

I think Mr Steven Goh does not understand that when the car behind flashes means to let them pass and not drive faster!

Why let another car decide how fast he drives? Steven should have just let the other car pass and continue at the speed he was doing.

Steven Goh's reading of the situation is clearly wrong and because he keep speeding up and then slowing down he has turned the expressway into a racetrack and he disregarded the safety of other road users and is clearly a very dangerous driver.

Speeding up and not letting the other driver pass is clearly an ego thing - I am faster so I don't need to give way and let people pass! Its just down right silly.

I hope he drives with more maturity if future and he should note that hazard lights are for stationary vehicles and not moving ones.

Actually, i don't fault him for traveling 90 on lane 1 IF all the traffic in front of him are doing so.

Realistically, during peak hours it might be the only lane you can travel at 90 as lane 2 hogged by vans/lorries doing 70/80.

Hazard light moving one also can i think. I found it useful once when a driver in front of me brake and switch on his hazard lights because the lane kenna accident. Could eb useful to warn other driver if suddenly engine stall while on the move too.

You are absolutely right - there is nothing wrong with doing 90 kmh on lane 1 or any other lane.

The issue here is not letting the the car pass.

As Mr Steven Goh himself said he kept speeding up a few times meant that there is clear road in front.

If there are cars in front then he would not have been able to keep going faster a few times.

If suddenly engine stall or lane kenna accident then perfectly ok to use the hazard lights

as it is a genuine hazard but in Mr Steven Goh's case there is no genuine hazard

unless off course Mr Goh means he is the hazard himself.

There are people who drive car like as if they are flying a plane and the plane going to take off the ground very soon. [sweatdrop]

Neutral Newbie

I wonder if Steven do the same when he sees an ambulance coming behind with casualty life and death, any moment KO. Will he be kana fine for blocking ambulance? The same concept should apply, car travelling fast must be in hurry.
