Hi guys,

Components speakers like Canton, Rainbow, MB Quart, etc....asking for a much cheaper price than most audio shops that does installation. The cheap price is because of profit margin or not a genuine products?

Likewise for amps and headsets. Example Alpine CDA9884 $295 (SLT) vs $475 at installer shop .

Any experiences?

Can our ear tell the differences in sound quality?

Speakers I think some may be fakes.

But I doubt the HU can be fake....too much electronics skills to make a fake HU.

But then some say amplifiers can also be fakes as well, saw the so called 'real' and 'fake' DSL amplifiers from the local delear showroom.

I bought the cheap Hi-Fi stuff from SL....installed in my car.......not for competition...just for everyday listening...... I cannot tell the difference.....fake or not....lasted two years already in my car....so far so good.

My take is HU may not have fake but dunno if factory rejects for some non-conforming specs. Not spoilt units of course.

As for the speakers and amps, it is quite known that most of them are contract to be made in China factories. So it could be these factories copied the original designs but make changes to the parts used as in lower grade electronic components. I had bought amps from SLT and they somehow lack the punch. But then again, I can't really tell without a direct comparison with a set that comes from the agent.

Just wondering if anyone here has any affirmative experience. [rolleyes]

HUs from SLT are most likely "export" sets. These are different from the ones you get from the installers which are "local" sets. It all boils down to the authorized distributor and the one who warrants your set if it happens to break down. E.g the local distributor for alpine sets in Spore is http://www.wokeehong.com.sg/carAudio.html

advantages are when your "local" set runs out of its warranty period, and if it gets spolit, you can bring down to the authorized and get it repaired . If you were to bring a "export" set to the Distributed, he may or maynot repair it and be prepared to pay a higher fee to get it repaired.

Like bringing a PI car to the Agent for repairs. Be prepared to pay a premium.

I am a victim of fake HU for my last ride. The installer told me its brand new but after doing up and all, I asked for warranty card he told me anything just go back to him. Sound quality was ok, but less than 2 months, the HU actually went black out (no power). Went back to him and he took more than 3 weeks to get it repaired. Went to the manufacturer to check on serial number and everything, told me no such records. Explained to me most likely is used foreign import, even inside parts are non original. Simply pissed!

PS: Anybody know of a good sound tuner?

Actually its not about the sound quality, but about whether you are being overcharged for something you think is real.
