Lab4games 1st Gear March 15, 2009 Share March 15, 2009 March 15, 2009 Return of cheapest grade petrol By Christopher Tan CALTEX has reintroduced 92-octane, the cheapest grade of petrol, at its pumps here in response to the economic downturn. This grade of petrol, which disappeared from its stations in 2000, is now back at the pumps at its Pasir Panjang, Bukit Merah and Alexandra stations. All 33 stations of the smallest oil company here will have it by March 24. Not only that, Caltex is pricing its 92-octane at $1.536 a litre before discount - 2.2 cents lower than its rivals, making it the cheapest petrol here. ↡ Advertisement

Karebu 1st Gear March 15, 2009 Share March 15, 2009 (edited) back in 2000 i was a kid. so what was/is caltex 92 called? bronze with techron? curious but the 3 stations are quite out of the way for me to check them out. anyone pumped at any of the 3 kiosks yet? how do they add 92 to the current pumps? did they rig up another hose for 92? or alternate 95 and 92 between each pump station? Ridethewave Neutral Newbie March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 Just pumped this morning, no more 98 Gold, I was told Gold/Platinum same price. I suppose the new pump format should be Silver - 92 Gold - 95 Platinum -

Jacf Neutral Newbie March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 so now got one more choice for 92 petrol.. Caltex must have lost a big chunk of this segment to Esso and Shell as more and more ppl are switching to 92 in times of downturn.. anyway, if Caltex can really priced their 92 cheaper than others. then we can expect a price war to start soon! good news for motorists!!! Solar Turbocharged March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 (edited) so, their 98 gold has become 98 platinum, and the original gold has been scrapped to make way for the 92 regular.. i was under the impression that the previous 98 platinum is something like vpower.. that means we are actually in for a better deal? Sunlight 1st Gear March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 why did they drop 92 in the first place? i dont see any reason why we cannot use 92 petrol, while our cousins up north has no problem with it.
Razgriz Clutched March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 hahah .. ya.. 92 no power.. but in budget times.. for ppl, as long as the car is moving = good scenario.. it is quite a good news..
Raffy1996 Neutral Newbie March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 From ST: A Shell spokesman said this was because demand for the petrol grade was low, at 5 per cent to 6 per cent of total petrol sales. 'Our stations are therefore geared up accordingly,' he said. Chevron Singapore could not say why it dropped 92-octane in 2000, but observers reckon it could have been due to motorists then favouring higher-octane fuels. Pcslim Neutral Newbie March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 Good good. Though many may not think highly of 92 petrol, more importantly is the good initiative to lower the pump price by caltex.
Hulk 1st Gear March 16, 2009 Share March 16, 2009 (edited) Today I pump Platinum petrol at Caltex at $1.670, isn't this price is 98 grade one? Don't understand, can the pump price dropped so much from $1.80+ for this top grade petrol? Edited March 16, 2009 by Hulk
