Neutral Newbie

Hello all,

Does anyone know (now a days) where would you NORMALLY collect your new car after you have booked it, and COE has been secured along with the registration documents?

Well, you see, I bought a new Suzuki Swift Sport 1.6 (m) from Champion and I was told to collect it from another location near the port called a Vehicle Delivery Base. I've personally looked up the location via Google Earth and it is a port! Personally drove there in my old car and found that it is an open space storage facility for their cars?? Wouldn't this mean that their stock of cars are kept under the baking sun all these while prior to my purchasing one?

I'm a little unsettled hearing from some Swift owners that they have collected theirs from the showroom, and couldn't fathom why I have to collect mine from their storage facility? Can anyone verify if there's been a change in their company policies regarding new car collection?

If I'm not wrong, I think you are mistaken on the collection point. You should be collecting from the Toyota cum Suzuki New Car Collection Centre beside the Republic of Singapore Yacht Club, which is next to Pasir Panjang Container Port. I very much doubt collection is from the port itself.

And by the way, cars everywhere are indeed stored in the open, under the baking sun, under snow, washed by rain and blown by salty sea breezes. Cars that left the factory line and are awaiting shipping to distributors are stored in the open. Cars that reached port and awaiting customers to buy, are stored in the open for months, even a year or more. While you may sayang sayang your car very much and expect the distributor to do likewise, welcome to the real world, its not like that. Nobody has huge warehouses for storage.

In fact from my experience, up to about 30% of new cars have minor dents and scratches. You must be shocked, huh? Well, you won't see it on your car as the distributor would have rectified it before delivering it to you. No, your new car is not defective, it's just that from the point of leaving the factory line --> outbound port --> ship --> inbound port --> local distributor, your new car has passed through many drivers' hands and they don't sayang sayang your car. Cars bump into each other, doors get opened into the adjacent car, etc. So you get all those minor minor damage.

I thought usually from the AD's service centre or showroom but not the one displayed inside the glass window......

Maybe you can check with your SE.

I have seen new car being driven by the sales man to the work shop for touch up the paint. If you are buying a new car, don't expect your car is completely dent free. I ever saw a new car haven't deliver to customer had a paint chip and quickly send for touch up.

take a leisure drive down keppel viaduct

i think the 2nd last exit towards west PPT gate 4, its represents Pasir Panjang Gate 4.

once you exit you will see toyota, mazada, mercedes. inside the yard itself there are also chryslers.

baking in the sun, awaiting delivery, if you think your new car is that new, you are wrong.

they are send for abrasive polishing before delivery to you.

its not our autoglym or mcguair, its abrasive polishing with something like fine sand bits.

so always check your cars, as to some bro mention the cars inside are in bad shape, i would say yes, theres more horror inside the port, but since its restricted access i guess no one knows much about it.

i cant say more due to some reasons.

All cars of all make are either baked in hot sun or frozen in deep winter cold once out of factory line.

For me I won't mind visiting someplace new anyway how far can it be. If need me go up a ship to drive out, more BEST!

Woah... that was quite an array of feedback and a mind-full of information! Thanks people.

Well, I guess cars were made to take the elements and baking under the sun awaiting ownership is one of em.

More of a concern is how it has been driven by all the car handlers at both sides of the ports; high reving and thumping over the ramps onto and off vessels - I would be interested in looking undercarriage for ground or hump impact, and possibly leaky shocks. [shocked]

So assuming that all these horrible accounts are true, then we can as well assume that the 1st 1000K TLC driving rule for a new car, is for lack of a better word - SCREWED. However, I seriously doubt cars like Merc., Beemers, and especially all those exotic Italian marquees will be Man Handled similarly.

However, if there were paint defects and or superficial damages incurred during transit, wouldn't it be detectable upon inspection?

<_<

I collected my Toyota there too. My SE was relly horrible. Prob the worst ever...

I have NO DOUBTS that Toyota's (Borneo Motors) service attitude sucks royally. And it seems CM has taken to their deplorable standards too since they are also under BM, Inchcape. Sad...

In all my 20 odd years of driving, I have NEVER bought a Toyota. Because of this.

And it seems that only Nissan, Tan Chong & Sons, has the best Customer Service Attitude - even after you have signed the papers and committed a large portion of your savings to them. But sadly, I like none of their cars - even their latest GTR. I called up Nissan as a non-buying enquiring customer, and I was well assisted by the Sales Personnel on the other side of the line! Accomodating is the word. But I hope that when sales and popularity of their cars picks up, they do not become the lilkes of Borneo Motors. As it goess in Hokkien: "Ai lai, mai swah!"

Comparatively, the high performance Italian & German showrooms outshines all the other Japanese ones. I once stepped into Stutgart Auto (Porche showroom) in my bermudas and sandals, and I was promptly (not shown the EXIT door) served courteously and with genuine interest. I believe they know how the truly wealthy ones would often be attired - unfortunately they were wrong on that one occasion - my pockets aren't that deep. :D Unbelievable as it may seem, the sales girl even offered me a test drive on the Boxter! To which I promptly and thankfully declined.

I guess sales line staffers trained abroad will perform better than those trained locally.
