Quantum 5th Gear January 21, 2015 Author Share January 21, 2015 (edited) The japs all are geared to the US market. Nissan, Honda, Toyota. It will be many years before they decide to go turbo at least for the bigger engines. In USA, they treat cars like household appliance. It's just like how every house has a washing machine. What u want in a washing machine is to not waste too much water, clean your clothes and not to spoil. Frankly the target audience in USA don't give a crap about turbo. They want good FC on highway (which is not where petrol turbos conserve fuel) and also rock solid reliability cos workshop costs are high in US. It will be many many years before turbo engined cars make a dent in USA. Turbodiesel won't take off. Lol diesel is more costly than gasoline in US! No surprise that CVT transmissions have caught on in a big way there. The accord, altima are already full CVT. Suspect matter of time before Camry does also. In fact Camry hybrid is already CVT. agree, USA is Jap cars major market, hard to see Conti cars there, AUS, NZ same, Edited January 21, 2015 by Quantum ↡ Advertisement
serenade 6th Gear January 21, 2015 Share January 21, 2015 agree, USA is Jap cars major market, hard to see Conti cars there, AUS, NZ same, Which is the main reason why the Jap cars that are targeted for US market are all good highway cruisers, but are bad around twisty roads. US highways are straight and long with gentle bends. Gets tiresome on long drive when it is noisy, and a magic carpet ride is best way to travel. Continental Europe and UK, the roads are narrow, have tight bends, wet and hilly. If a car is not firm around the bends and cannot grip well, passengers get car sick and car get into a skid respectively. This explains the different driving dynamics of USA and Conti cars with eye on their home market. There are a few exceptions though. Subaru has a niche USA market in states where snow falls and/or people attach a trailer. Explains why Subaru Outback 3.6l sells best in USA, Canada, Aus and NZ

Lala81 Hypersonic January 22, 2015 Share January 22, 2015 (edited) Initial impressions after driving the Accord for last few days Likes - Lots of nice features which i guess is standard in a 2L executive category - Like the power. Good enough for me. But still running in the engine so no revving past 3k rpm. - Handling is light but accurate - it's really a good cruiser. Will take it up north sometime... Dislikes - Getting used to the suspension. It's more comfort oriented than I'm used to. It wasn't obvious on the lengkee stretch but it's a bit soft. I think i will have liked the mz6 setup better - Glove compartment not big enough. Could have more storage space in the front... - Boot doesn't pop up automatically Edited January 22, 2015 by Lala81
serenade 6th Gear January 23, 2015 Share January 23, 2015 Choosing Accord over Mz6, is a choice of useable space over handling, as Accord has much more space in cabin and boot. And is quieter than Mz6 too (A2.4 vs M2.5). Personally, I find the Accord a better all-round vehicle in our local roads and Malaysian drives where the big boot can carry plenty of groceries and shopping from across Causeway. The fact that the Accord is better cruiser on NS Highway is helpful too. However, driving the small winding roads of Johore around Segamat durian area, the Mz6 will be more fun due to the better handling chassis, and mid-range punch of the 2.5 engine mated to 6spd gearbox. Having owned Mz3 before and now Civic, my conclusion has always been that the Mazda is the better handling car of the 2 but Honda wins in almost everything else, response, power, consumption, quiet etc. So no real surpeise for me that you having the same feel. Anyway, enjoy your new ride!!

Surprise that the boot doesn't pop up automatically though?? BTW, Honda owners always brag that once you drive a Honda, you won't want to drive another Jap make anymore. I must say that I was not convinced at the beginning but now I tend to agree haha!!

Spring Moderator January 23, 2015 Share January 23, 2015 No lay...I drove a Civic SIR for 5 yrs & follow by Accord 2.4 for 10 yrs but now I just brought a Teana 2.5. Haha you the exception then!! I'm into my first Honda which will be 5 years this year and as at now, not sure if my next car (if there is a next) will be a Honda or not. Think that remark was said in jest by those die die must be Honda drivers. Honestly, I do like the responsiveness of the Honda and must say it performs better than all the other Jap makes I owned previously and that's why this is the longest car I've owned!

Lala81 Hypersonic January 23, 2015 Share January 23, 2015 What made you choose the Teana over the Accord 2.4 and Mazda 6? Was it the very comfortable driver's seat? I feel that the driver seat for Accord is exceptionally comfortable. U can adjust everything. Front & back, forward tilt and backward tilt standard of course in any car. U can adjust height. U can Adjust the curve of the lumbar support (I disliked the Camry cos the lumbar support is too much) As i mentioned earlier, the headrest is just right for me as cf to the teana. The cushioning initially may feel good in the Teana/volvo. But the driver seat in Accord is really tokgong. I think Teana 2.5 is good value. But i personally prefer the 2.0L as best value if u don't mind a slowish but smooth pickup. 2.5 would be more suitable for us drivers. All the kit available for 12.7k depre vs 13.4k for the 2.5L. CVT tranny but very smooth pickup. But i'm personally used to the torque convertor gear change so it's not a big deal for me. No lay...I drove a Civic SIR for 5 yrs & follow by Accord 2.4 for 10 yrs but now I just brought a Teana 2.5. U own the 1st Thai accord then. Unless u bought the JDM. My dad owned that as well. This current generation is much improved over the last 2 generations. Though somethings are still very much the same. Lol the tinted top of the front windshield. The interior door panel is almost the same as 2 generations ago...

I'm actually deciding between Accord 2.4 & Teana 2.5. After visiting some Malaysia web sites, I've chosen Teana 2.5. In Malaysia Accord 2.4 is selling RM174K and Teana 2.5 is selling RM169K. The different is only RM5K, which is about Singapore dollars $2K different. But over here in August Accord 2.4 is selling $169K compare to Teana 2.5 selling $142K. (Accord is $27k more expensive). Both cars are are made in Thailand. I just can't figure out how can an Accord 2.4 is $26K more expensive than Teana 2.5.Not to forget that some of the features found on a Teana is not found in Accord. But of course there are still people still go for Accord. Edited January 25, 2015 by pat3g

But of course there are still people still go for Accord. Accord 2.4 basic car cost is 76.3k based on sg tax structure. Teana 2.5 is 60.8k. Well that explains part of it. whether u find the original car cost also too high... What features are in teana that aren't in the accord? They are very similar in terms of kit available. In fact the teana 2.5 kit is almost the same as 2.0. You really are paying for the engine for the difference as compared to other makes. Only major difference is engine and memory seats. Ha teana is a logical buy!
serenade 6th Gear January 25, 2015 Share January 25, 2015 Tan Chong fit the Teana's luxury ancillaries like head unit and leather seats locally, to save on import duty. I think the Accord is imported fully fitted at the factory and incurs higher taxes. Agree that the Teana represents excellent value to someone who likes a quiet, comfortable and luxurious highway cruiser. Drivers who want a car with sportier drive albeit at higher cost, will look towards Accord and Mz6. To my driving style, the worst part about the Teana is the lack of paddle shifts (I use these a lot) and body roll around bends.
