Anything can happen on the road (Choy! [lipsrsealed] )

You may observe these rules but other drivers may not and react in a way you unexpect. In a split of second, dun think u will have time to go through these steps.

That's true but signalling does help coz some drivers just dash into your way without signalling and by the time you realise, you may just rear end them. I typically signal my intentions when a car bonnet is about half way passed my car to allow the car behind his to know my intention. It is really an art coz some drivers will just speed up and not give way. [shakehead]

check side mirror, no car go

check side mirror, got car....signal, safe to go? Yes, cut in. No, wait for chance

Still cannot go, next junction then turn, safety comes first.

Always signal first, no matter if got car or not, they fast a not.

My 2c: I think if i give way to people, they will give way to others.. so if everyone starts giving way, then driving here won't be so stressful le... budden again, idiots in SG are plentiful.

singapore driver commonly will wan to speed up from preventing people from changing lane...when you signal...

as a result this make most people...do not wan to signal when they change lane.....

it's just a negative cycle ..that's all...

My method of lane changing, pls comment

Ok after reading http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?showto...635942&st=0 , i have decided on this is how i am going to change lane in heavy , but not so slow traffic.

I think the key is knowing how to play with my signal lights and not to confuse the other driver of my intention

1) initially, check for a gap using side mirror, NO SIGNAL

2)

if got car quite far away at same speed relative to me.... SIGNAL

if got car quite near at same speed relative to me....NO SIGNAL + me Slow down and let that car speed forward till he is in front

if got no car, ..... SIGNAL

If got car quite far away driving faster ... NO SIGNAL

If got car quite near driving faster ... NO SIGNAL

3) for cases which I signal, i give 2 seconds for the car behind to take notice of me.

4)

after 2 seconds i check the car behind on my side mirror again,

if he speed up, I REMOVE SIGNAL and slow down and dont cut his lane

if he maintain speed, i continue my signal signal and cut in, speed up and pay attention to the car in front, ensuring that i have enough gap if that car in front jam brake

if he slow down, i continue my signal and cut in and speed up, and pay attention to the car in front , ensuring that i have enough gap if that car in front jam brake

feel free to leave your comments, whether positive or negative. As long as we have something to learn from it [thumbsup]

Maybe the best way is for you to go out there and drive more... Some things, talk on paper is useless 1.

Keep things simple.

If you intend to change lane, do the following.

1) Signal your intention.

2) Check side mirror, check blindspot.

3) If clear, filter gradually.

4) If not clear, maintain speed and wait.

That's all.

Having said that, as some mentioned, plan out your route. If you need to make a U-turn or turn at a junction, make sure you go into the correct lane early.

frankly..changing lane is all about a driver experience to handle the situation during that time. I do not have any problem changing lane despite many people saying other cars will speed up when you signal. The point is how fast your action and your judgement on the gap....once you signal, be ready to move in....I saw some aunties, signal for ages and still scared to move in...

SIGNAL always unless next lane totally no car behind.

I hate cars changing lane without signal or signal and immediate cut in, this sometimes forced me to step on brake. So you no signal, I no give way, the rule is simple. courtesy! [sweatdrop]

SIGNAL always unless next lane totally no car behind.

Not only that, the signal is also to inform the car behind u in the same lane that u r changing, in case he needs to too and doesn't have to jam brake.
