Tjkbeluga 5th Gear March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 Haiz... All you ppl comprain, comprain... Those not happy here, have you guys ever tried living in oversea for a period of time before complaining? I'm not saying the system here is perfect but be thankful of what it is today. Certain things can't be compared, like why here no 4 seasons, why here no nice country side. These are unfair comparison.

Babyckh 5th Gear March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 we used to be more fortunate, compare to the 4 direction of our motherland...we strive to be number 1 all the time...even this recession or depression...whatever.... Kiadaw 6th Gear March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 (edited) & here I can't wait to get out. But I have to say its not too bad of a place, just that I found somewhere I feel more suitable for me. Big City life just isn't my cup of tea, & SIngapore is basically like one big city, & inherited all the problem of big cities (except crime rates) like Congested traffic, small homes. Huge crowds everywhere. But like big city, its self contain, everywhere is near, & stuff are easy to get. Edited March 10, 2009 by Kiadaw

Drive_carcar Clutched March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 For a time it really sucked to be a Singaporean, because when compared to expatriates, many feel they get the short end of the stick. There don't seem to be many disadvantages to being an expat, but being a Singaporean there's lots of costs. Also many companies employed expats and give all the good stuff to them, good projects, expat terms and perks. While locals get the sh&tty work and are paid much less without the perks that expats enjoy. At least that's what most of us perceive to be the case. But with economy getting really bad, I believe things are changing. An expat stand about as much chance as a local of getting retrenched, maybe even high chance. Ultimately its a business decision which involves figuring out who is worth more in terms of contributions. So without going through a detailed comparison of the pros & cos of being an expat vs a local citizen, I think life is pretty much what we expect and make out of it. Seriously if we want to ask if Singapore is a good place to stay for a local citizen, my question is what makes you think another country is really better? There's no perfect place in the world, it's all in one's attitude and expectations.
Tjkbeluga 5th Gear March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 Don't have to worry? Wait a few more months. Yes, life here is not a bed of roses either but do you feel unsafe during these recession? In Msia where I come from, crime is real enough to make me feel unsafe. Education for children wise, I'm really appreciative of how commited the teachers here in teaching compared to the scrap grads turn teacher in Msia. Having said all these, I don't mean to say gahmen has done evrything right, but its really not a bad place. Unfortnately Singapore is small and geographocal location is not really that strategic, so bo pian...
Solar Turbocharged March 10, 2009 Share March 10, 2009 imo, got to take these surveys with a pinch of salt.. we dunno what criteria they used to come up with the result. for example, a bowl of noodle in australia costs $10 (and taste bad). but the same in a sg food court would cost $4. then shouldn't be the ozzies placed before us at no. 10? instead, melb is 39 and bris is 57. http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/stor...5001028,00.html another point is the salary of that expat.. local terms? in what currency? tax? i think they are all factors.. we are making a mistake to think another country is 'cheaper' by looking at surveys (which may also be politically motivated)... ↡ Advertisement
