My car has problem of stale odor which seems to be trapped in aircond system.

I have put a whole bag of charcoal in the car, but improvement has been minimal.

Any ideas ?

Hi guys

Kena seafood (bought fresh from market) "juice" at boot of my mpv and parked under hot sun over the weekend, now stinks like hell, any help or suggestions to rid the smell? Tried odour remover and charcoal frangrance bottle bought from Esso, also started putting pandan leaves in the car, STILL STINKS!

===========

I had b4 when I used to buy seafood in bulk. Styrofoam box broke & leaked & the "juice" wet my carpet in the boot. Smell was so bad, my daughter refused to sit in the car.

I took out the mat & washed & dried it. Still had some smell so I sprayed Lysol on the affected part every day till the smell disappeared. U can also try Fabreeze. Took about 1 week. Oh & I opened & sunned the boot as often as possible.

Now I keep a cooler box(plastic) in the back & put all smelly stuff in there. So far no more problems. I just wash out the box if anything spills inside. Its watertight & airtight so the smells r contained.

Hi Drive....so what kind of anti septic spray shall I buy and where exactly do i spray it ? Thanks in advance.

===============

many brands on the market now.

U can try, Lysol, Dettol & Clorox. All sold at supermarkets & even some DIY shops.

I now switch to Clorox (bought from JB supermarkets) as its cheaper than Lysol.

I spray once or twice a year inside the car. On the carpets, seats & turn on AC fan to max & spray under dash so it gets sucked into the intake to disinfect the cooling coil & AC ducts.

After spray, leave car overnight to kill all bacteria & mould. Next day u can smell a light fresh smell. If the smell still too strong, just open the windows & drive for a few minutes to relase the fresh smell till its not so strong.

I even use the Clorox to spray inside my shoes for a long lasting fresh smell. [thumbsup]

The charcoal from Daiso is pretty effective as compared to those spray (including pandan leaves) which I used to have and used it for my interior.

Buy Febreeze from NTUC. Below $10 for a bottle. It clears out smelly fabrics w/o need for washing. Tried on my home fabric sofa before and it works like a charm. Read instructions on bottle before using.

My previous Corona had fabric seats but never had any bad smell.

I suspect water is leaking into your car from somewhere.

Try to feel the carpets & floor area & see if its damp. If u have a leak, u must fix the leak b4 u can get rid of any bad smells.

That "new car smell" is actually very unhealthy. It the smell of all those harmful chemicals leaking out into the air.

The sooner it goes away the better.
