Seen the hand surgeon today. Had 5 laser treatment and after 1 month, finger still the same. Still clicks, swollen and painful. The hand surgeon used an ultrasound to show me the inflammation under the skin at the area of the finger affected. Can see the swollen bump, black patch on the screen and the tendon moving as he moved my finger.

He told me that they have exhausted all treatments available and I am left with surgery. He said, looking at the swelling, the only cure for my finger is surgery. And so I agreed to the surgery. I was given a date next month for the surgery.

Very nice elderly angmo doctor, soft spoken and very direct.

The down time after surgery for my hand will be 3 to 4 weeks. Jialat, driving will be a challenge.

Hope this will finally cure my trigger finger. The most painful experience was clenching my fist in the middle of the night in my sleep. Instantly, the pain shocked me awake. Also driving, very painful when shifting gear, grabbing the gear stick. Lucky its automatic gear so not too many gear stick action. Cannot imagine driving a manual gear.

Wish you a safe operation and a speedy recovery.

Take care.

Hopefully after the surgery, your trigger finger will recover or at least improve tremendously. [thumbsup]  Maybe go grab or public transport for that 3-4 weeks since challenge to drive la.

Luckily the inflammation only affects your finger but what kind of surgery to your finger?

I'm sure you'll have a fully recovery my friend, keep us updated.

According to the surgeon, he will cut open the region between my metacarpal and proximal phalanx of my left middle finger. Then cut open the restriction where the A1 pulley is, thus releasing the restriction.

I also agreed to allow him to take a sample of my tendon for his own research.

Hope you understand what I wrote. That's what he told me cos he knows I understood the terms he used.

Routine minor surgery. No worries.

I was not referred to physio. I was referred to an Occupational Therapist. As what the doctors and OTs told me, for trigger finger, it was due to the overused of the finger. Therefore it should be immobilised. I was provided a splint to prevent my finger from bending. They then taught me exercises to flex and massage the finger to ensure I still have full range of movements after being immobilised for a long time.

However, the splint is really very restrictive so after a while, I removed it. Only wear it once in a while. When I wear it and grab stuff, it always looks like I showing ppl the middle finger.:XD:Overall, it did not work for me.

Not sure what i did but it went away after suffering for a few years, same for the rheumatism on my knee that went away after few years. Seem like these problems went away when i grow older [laugh]

Strap your middle finger with your fourth finger. It will be less awkward.

In actual fact, how did you manage to overuse your middle finger only? :slow:
