Octopus 3rd Gear February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 Hi All, Just curious, does solar films has a lifespan? For example, Solar Film A when advertised having ultraviolet rejection 95%, infrared rejection 80%, etc... Will the rejection rate deteriorate after some years? Also, would the visible light transmission reading changes as years goes by? Will the sun cause it to lighten or darken over a few years? I hear car glasses when new got a tint, but the sunlight will cause it to become clearer. But opposite is happening to glasses on headlight, over time it became yellowish. How is the duarability of metallic base solar films compare to ceramic base solar films? Lastly, those whom installed solar films, do you request the installer to prove to you the ultraviolet and infrared rejection readings after installed on your car? For me I didn't, I just accept what was stated in their advertisement. But I wonder how accurate the advertised readings is as compared to actual? ↡ Advertisement

For me I didn't, I just accept what was stated in their advertisement. But I wonder how accurate the advertised readings is as compared to actual? Hi Octopus, The rejection rate will deteriorate after about 5 years, and even then it will only drop around 2-3%. The visible light transmission reading will change by a very small amount(2-3%) after around 5 years. If the glasses are factory fitted and tinted, they will never fade nor darken. Basically both bases are the same, just that they constructed differently, however, ceramic base solar films last longer than metallic base solar films.Even then, the difference in longevity will only show after 10 years and above. For our solar films, you can request the installer to prove to you the ultraviolet and infrared rejection readings after the installation on your car.I do not know about other companies but we give the values of the film itself so the reading will be higher when installed on your car because the glass is also adding to the value we gave for the film. Of course, all these comparisons are given on the basis of high quality films so all bros bad experiences might have been to non-high quality films. Cheers, Sherine Chan. Octopus 3rd Gear February 17, 2009 Author Share February 17, 2009 Hi Sherine, Thanks for answering my queries. My solar films installer only did the visible light transmission test after installation, I didn't know there are also instruments to test for ultraviolet and infrared.
