the thing i don't get it is... why mcf forumers always feel that singaporeans are not capable of buying condos/travel packages/cars during this period?

i reckon those group have lots of savings + in recession proof jobs like SAF/Teaching/Medicine/Police Force.

they'r the ones who'll come out to "kio sai"

and the strange thing is that the group that said they wouldn't own a car unless they earn x amount also complain greatly when woman ask for 4-5k minimum earning..

I must be missing a lot of things..

Wah...indeed, Singapore is recession proof despite wat economic data indicates.

Channel News Asia

recession doesn't means everyone is in recession mar.. still got to eat and enjoy..

it's a matter of managing one's spending and planning..

when some people in some places are dying from hunger, do I have to forgo my 2 piece of bread and plain water?

at times when I'm feeling elite, I still splurge and put some kaya on one side of the bread, you know..

Recession don't mean one cannot spend mah.

Now is the time for those who are cash rich to come out and play.

agree. all u need is 1 in 10 families to decide to go holiday, the tour agents will have more than enough business.

always a very worrying scenario when consumer spending behaviour is not align with the country economic growth. Economy is contracting, but spending habit the same.

IT show is coming soon, and if recession effect is really in, many would give up technological items first. So IT show will be interesting to gauge consumer sentiment. I got a feeling it is STILL going to be a very crowded affair.

historically, IT/Gadget spending goes up in downturn for Singapore. Cos most ppl scale back on big ticket items. hence some of the budget spills over to gadget spending. as far as this gadget thirsty state goes, this downturn can mean good gadget bargains. esp if one has already been planning to get some specific item. i mean seriously, if a XGA Full HD 32 inch LCD TV with eye catching specs is put on sale at $699. will u grab?
