Lightbringer 6th Gear February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 Hello fellas, I'm currently thinking of replacing my aging air-conditioning system at home, and am wondering if any kind (and hopefully experienced!) souls here know of any air-conditioning installer/dealers who can do a good job with the installation of the central unit, secondary units, piping, etc? Cost is secondary to workmanship although it would be nice to find a honest and reliable tradesman that charges reasonable prices as well. Advice on what brand/models that are cost-effective and reliable will also be appreciated, am currently undecided on inverter or non-inverter systems as I figure the cost-and-energy savings from the inverter system will take a really long period of time to reach the price differential on a non-inverter unit, by then which I would be looking to replace my air conditioning system again. Thanks in advance, and have a good week ahead everybody. ↡ Advertisement

Ghostrider 3rd Gear February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 I recommend Gain City. I had my aging system 5 aircon replace to those new inverter series aircon. These would require a change of piping and they did a good job for me. Sign a 5 years maintenance package with them and so far so good....
Dc5r Neutral Newbie February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 Gain City is not bad. Do wait for their Anniversary sale at end of Feb. Brands to take note is Sanyo. Insider news... Sanyo have brought in a revolutionary model for inverter. Designer style, slim and quietest. Do stay tune.
Lightbringer 6th Gear February 16, 2009 Author Share February 16, 2009 No, I'm afraid my name doesn't even comes close to Lucas. Regarding Gain City, I've heard a lot of bad opinions regarding their workmanship and quality of workers. So you guys have had good experience with them instead? Any branch or manager to recommend? Mivec9 1st Gear February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 I was in your shoes in Nov/Dec and got it installed in Jan. If u do a search, u would find installation/workmanship is the no. 1 factor for aircon, follow by insulator/brand/cost of aircon. As i expect myself to be high usage user, so i opted for more expensive inverter 3+1 (3 bedroom and 1 hall). if u r low usage, go for non-inverter. My advice is to get jap brands preferably. The black type insulator is recommended. Eg. are armaflex ones. Some recommended ones like Gaincity, Hong Tar.

These would require a change of piping and they did a good job for me. Sign a 5 years maintenance package with them and so far so good.... Are they good? Heard crappy reviews about them . . . . . I need to install a casement type as I think the weather is going to get real warm the next few months. Any casement type to recommend, bro?
Mkl22 Supersonic February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 quality home appliances. their shop is at 5th floor of centerpoint. They installed my sanyo system in a few rooms and lasted 17yrs. Recently changed to daikin inverter due to age of the sanyo and power costs.
Ghostrider 3rd Gear February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 No idea on casement kind...but I think like cars...take the higher bhp one better. Cos dun need to work so hard to cool the room. I think every dealer will have their fair share of bad customers experiences...so far Gain City was recommended by a friend who works in Toshiba...told me that they were good and ask me to go see them....no special treatment....just a normal walk in. I won't say that they go out of the way to make my day...but min...what they promised, they deliver. So no complain so far.

I'm opting for casement becos my wifey not really like the idea of having air-con at home, (you know the multi-split types). Just want to fix up one in my son's room . . . .. I need to install a casement type as I think the weather is going to get real warm the next few months. Any casement type to recommend, bro? I think you mean those single unit air conditioner. There are those called portable single units which does not require any installation, just plug in and play.
Ghostrider 3rd Gear February 16, 2009 Share February 16, 2009 IMM one sell TV only...no aircon. I went to their showroom at AMK....there they hook up the aircons to power meters so that you can see which model is the best economical one.

I'm only suggesting the portable one I did not say they are the same. [rolleyes] If I dunno what's a single unit why would I even suggest it? It's just that portable ones can avoid installation on the wall which can be a mess. ↡ Advertisement
