Ridethewave Neutral Newbie February 15, 2009 Share February 15, 2009 I am about to take over a used car, just need some advice on Used Car Evaluation. So far, I heard that S** and Vi*** checks are so, so only. What other places can you recommend? Preferably if they are located in Ubi area cos I am getting the car in AML. TIA. ↡ Advertisement
macrosszero Turbocharged February 15, 2009 Share February 15, 2009 If you have a trusted regular mechanic, bring the car to him for the final pre-purchase inspection. Stacks of servicing receipts can also help to assure you that the car has been looked after.
Ridethewave Neutral Newbie February 15, 2009 Author Share February 15, 2009 I was thinking of that but my regular workshop is in Sin Ming and the dealer is reluctant to bring the car there.
macrosszero Turbocharged February 15, 2009 Share February 15, 2009 Walk away unless they allow it. You don't want to regret the purchase.

Ridethewave Neutral Newbie February 15, 2009 Author Share February 15, 2009 It's not that but they want to send to nearby S** which I heard is so-so. So if there is a better option nearby, it'll be good.
Kyojin 1st Gear February 15, 2009 Share February 15, 2009 best if you can bring it to STA for chassis alignment check. your mech won't be able to see if the chassis is bent. STA doesn't really check for engine condition or drive it around to test. very superficial. but after that, insist on bringing to your own trusted mech. if the dealer is honest, there's no reason why they won't send it to somebody they are not familiar with... if they are not willing, then something must be fishy. walk away, even if the deal is good. Kiadaw 6th Gear February 15, 2009 Share February 15, 2009 Can I ask what car you taking over. Usually if its a sport car type like WRX or very old car, you should go for more detail inspection. For normal sedan, I think just check for accident history & claim, on top of the standard checks. Not sure whether can find. Otherwise should be fine. Contax 1st Gear October 5, 2009 Share October 5, 2009 if first time buy car , see if you have any family members/relatives/friends that can recommend you a good car workshop/experience mech or they themselves know how to check . Depending on the model of the car , you can also request here if any bros can give you recommendation. Simultaneously , send your potential car to STA or Vicom for inspection too. Davies Neutral Newbie October 6, 2009 Share October 6, 2009 Hello There is a debate raging as to whether or not completing a defensive driving course will actually do much to improve the driving skills of the person who completed it. While having completed such a class will often qualify a driver for lower auto insurance premiums, the real world benefits of taking the course may not be very great. But in the case of newly licensed drivers, taking a defensive driving class may lead to significant driving abilities. If you think you are someone who would benefit from a defensive driving class, you should spend some time in the evaluation of driving classes offered in your area to determine which of them is most likely to meet your needs. Your evaluation of the classes available will give you a clear idea of the curriculum of each one, and how much it will teach you about actual defensive driving techniques as opposed to going over things you already know, like the ruled of the road and proper car maintenance.
