I personally find that sunroof or moonroof is not really useful (maybe only 10% useful) in singapore.

Singapore road is hot and dusty... with the occasionaly bird dropping!

Maybe it looks nice only.

When I drive in the morning rush hr or at night... I dont even feel like opening my sunroof.

noise level... not too bad. Usually sunroof will have another internal shade which we can slide open or close totally to avoid sunlight into the cabin. This shade when close will reduce the noise coz by rain... to the extend like cars without sunroof.

Cheers

1) Yes it is useful. In daytime it lets natural light into the cabin, brightening up the interior. You would want some solar film on the sunroof(or should i say, moonroof) to keep the heat out though. At night, i usually open it completely or tilt it open to let the air in when it's cool.

2) I actually think its quieter when its raining. raindrops hitting the metal roof make a distinctive sound, but raindrops hitting glass sounds more muted.

Ans: You could stick your head out of the sun roof to watch the NDP fireworks.

If you fart in the car and really wish to get rid of the smell fast, just open the sun roof.

Park the car at East Coast and enjoy the stars while laying back in your car looking thru the sun roof with a china gal in your arm..

The sun roof enhance the space in the car, i don't feel so cramp up in the car with a sun roof.

2. When it rains, is it much noisier in the cabin than cars without sunroof?

Ans: It's a bit noisier than cars without sun roof, you got that right.

thanks for the input!

vehicles wit sun/moon roof r built wit stronger support beams???n better reinforce all around n more rigid,

it is always 4O-5Okg heavier than rides w/out opening on top.

it seems e materials used r very much stronger than normal screen around e vehicle.

it oso depends on "how", n which occasion u r using it, single or family use!

Sunroof is useful for cool places when open driving through country road like New Zealand or Australia. S'pore is too humid so can forget it.

The raining noise is make no different with or without sunroof.

But for sunroof car insurance is higher by few hundred dollar.

If the S/R got remote to auto open, yes it would be good. Can cool down the car interior before u get in.

No diff on noise with or without S/R.

Just one extra thing to repair if spoil and more cost when doing solar film.

1. Useful? Good for when you want more natural light inside your cabin. Not really useful opening it though, for me at least. Not 3 not 4. Don't get the convertible feeling, makes your aircon work very hard increasing fuel consumption.

2. No difference in noise when the shade is closed. If your car has a panoramic sunroof, then it's even quieter. Rain hitting against glass is quieter than rain hitting against metal.

Certain things like,

1) letting in light.

2) can open to cool the car

3) kids love it, can see lights etc......

Din noticed is it noisier, for that really have to take 2 identical cars, 1 with it the other w/o for comparo.

Useful during cool nights and Christmas ...

Last I check, there are only 2 weather conditions in Singapore. Hot, & very hot.

My thoughts are to seat or test drive in cars with sunroof to make the decision.

1) it's useful for me to keep my baby boy occupied..he likes to look around while in the rear facing child seat. Good for very late afternoon and evening rides.

2. never really notice the noise..don't think it's much noisier

mine's a moonroof ride.based on usefulness,i find my ride much more spacious with more light coming in.but only open in late evening, night and cool mornings due to heat even though covered with solar film.coolness factor is another thing.kids and babes love my ride.especially during christmas..always become a positive talking factor.

as for noise, much more muted than one without moonroof/sunroof.

i had a couple of cars with sunroof.

that included my previous car, a brand new Volvo S40 2.4i which i paif extra and waited 4 months just so that the volvo factory in Brent Belgium could get it fitted for me.

when you have the sunroof closed, it is as quiet as any normal car.

when you have it opened, you'll get a great open feeling.

the best thing to a totally open top cabrio.

Very useful, especially when i dont finish my cigar and have to continue to smoke in the car.

Very useful, in cool evenings for a breath of fresh air (that partly depends on where you drive usually)

Most sunroofs nowadays are actually moonroof , meaning, they are tempered glass with adjustable shade.

One final advice...GO FOR IT.
