Ahtong 1st Gear February 2, 2009 Share February 2, 2009 For many weeks now, I have noticed a bright white light rather low in the evening sky. Based on my guess-timation, it is in the south west section of the sky. Is it Venus, a star, a satelite or UFO? Foxfire Neutral Newbie February 2, 2009 Share February 2, 2009 According to my iphone App Venus should be above West around evening, and slightly brownish, not bright whitish. Could be the "first magnitude star Achernar", part of the Eridanus (river) constellation. The other possibility is Mercury but it is at the horizon, thus can't see in HDB endowed Singapore. It is most likely a Satelite (the white lights are the reflection off the Solar panels), Stars will blink a bit and will not be a steady white light. Ahtong 1st Gear February 2, 2009 Author Share February 2, 2009 My friend also said it is satellite but it must be really low to be so bright? In geosynchoronous orbit somemore? Suddenly I am reminded of C&C's Ion Cannon.

Vroomtattat 2nd Gear February 2, 2009 Share February 2, 2009 Singapore Science Centre (SSC) has an observatory which TASOS uses every Friday night for star gazing. It is open to public for viewing but it depends on the weather. Can call to check before going. We saw Saturn on our first visit there!! BTW, TASOS is The Astronomy Society of Singapore, me and my son would be signing up as members once we get our telescope up and running . . . . the darn thing is not easy to fix up ↡ Advertisement
