Hi all i have a problem. It seems my car has become very bouncy recently after i rotate my tyres. The shop did balancing for me as well. I tried reducing the air pressure in tyres. What could be the reason? Absorber/ spring spoilt? I checked there is no leakage. Thanks

Absorber.

if yours is using air instead of oil, you would see any leaks.

Press down on ur boot/bonnet then let go, does the car bounces up and down?

if yes, your absorbers are gone.

Spring can last easily 10 years till you scrapped your car. Maybe it's the shock absorbers? How old is your car and what model is it?

But since it only happened AFTER you rotate the tyres, perhaps check that the nuts are tightened properly?

is there a general guideline on what is the mileage we should change our shocks?

my ride is coming close to 107,000 km now, almost 2.5 years now...

its a bit bouncy... although i still can endure the bounciness..

thanks for ur input...

ok i tried pushing it down from bonnet but it doesnt bounces up n down. My is toyota vios coming 2.5 yrs travelled abt 75000km. I check there is no oil on the absorber though.

But one thing to add the guy who did the rotation for me was terrible. He was new FT and did not know anything at all. He drop my rims on the ground n scratch my rims as well n that piss me off big time. I see him change the tyres i see liao i vomit blood. In the end the boss step in. Im just wondering if it is because he didnt know how to balance thats why the car is bouncy.

Changing tyres shouldn't affect bounciness which is usually due to bad shocks.

However, most rims have a centre ring which could dropped off when you remove the wheel.

Maybe the FT is blur and didn't put it back. This ring supports the wheel to the hub.

Oh How does the centre ring looks like? What happen is i went there, each of my rims had a yellow ring thing in the rim. After rotation i didnt check n left liao. The next day i saw one of my wheels is missing the yellow ring. So i went back to the shop n told them but they deny it. First they say ring was already missing. Next they say the ring is in black color so i cant see it.WTF Anyway they keep giving excuses. Horrible shop la. I was suspecting if it is the stupid ring thing that causes my car to be bouncy. Such a simple rign can cause so much discomfort. So if indeed the ring is missing where can i replace it? n how much it costs? thanks

It's a wheel hubcentric ring attached to the middle of the hub and adapt the wheel to it.

When I removed the wheel, it tends to drop off from the back which is drum brake.

The front disk brake somehow tends to make the ring stick to the wheel.

I saw Stamford tyres has a lot of these rings. It shouldn't be too expensive, just a few bucks I guess.

But the centre O ring should not have anything to do with car being bouncy. Usually O ring is use to fasten the rims to ensure they don't jerk, particularly when one upsize the rims from the stock one. We can't see these rings once the rims are being fitted. High Speed balancing will usually correct the problem when steering wheel becomes jerky in excees of 100Km/h. When doing high speed balancing, the mechanic should also be able to tell you which rim has problem.

Bounciness usually have something to do with the suspension.

Pushing bonnet down.. and the car spring up.. is normal. That is how the suspension system works. However, it should ONLY do 1 cycle, ie push down, spring up only once. If it springs up fast, then goes down again, then up a bit, then the shock absorber got problem. This is quite often seen in old pickup... when the pickup brake hard.. the fornt dives down, then bounces up and down.

My new ride got soft suspension, and also give the bouncy feel, does not take much to cos front to dive down. So, whether is bouncy.. could be a subjective issue of fault or softness.

Rotate tyres usually dun result in such problems, but sometimes, absorber got undetected problem.. and when touch the tyres.. the problem manifests itself.

Ppl already mentioned a hubcentric ring is missing. [rolleyes]

hi guys i went workshop n check. Apparently if u lose the front wheel hubcentre it will affect the car but for the not the back wheel ring. Anyway in the end found out my absorber gone liao.. need to change.. will cause 180 each. Do ur think it is a good idea to change 2nd hand absorber. I saw one koni coilover at $400 used for a yr. any advise?

You better get second opinion that damper is gone. My previous car 130k no such problem. My current car 85k also got no such problem. It could be one of the tyres not even.
