Ichibawa 5th Gear January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 To each his/her own. Everybody has his/her own preferences which may differs to others. There is no right or wrong for Friendstar to adore the Allion. Personally, I like the design and the built of the car too. At least its not the same old Altis or Vios which we see on the road which is why such car usually steal the limelight whenever they appear. Maybe its just me but I find this car more muscular in terms of outlook compared to the 1.6 Altis. ↡ Advertisement
Iliketodrive Neutral Newbie January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 I love it when manufacturers make solid bread and butter cars. Honda Civic is the undisputed distant champion. Good engine, solid interior, excellent FC, perfect handling, MIJ, futuristic, huge cabin space, reliable engine. However, it is very common on SG roads... so maybe my love and admiration for it is lesser than this one car... this is one affordable car which made me turn my heads and stirred my heart EVERYTIME i see it on the road. I have even seen people walking beside this car and commenting that its a very elegant ride. people carrying grocery bags mind u. they tried pronouncing its name, "ALIEN", "AL-LION"... (i pronounce it as "ALL-LEON") . It's design is simply.... flawless... perfection is reached in this car. I tried to be critical... but i simply CAN'T! Toyota Allion is simply.... the best car Toyota ever made (ok pls don't flame me. i know i'm getting too emotional and there'r celicas/starlets etc...) how u define GOOD ENGINE? yup the interior really very nice. excellent fc? my fren 1.8auto average around 10km/L good meh?? PERFECT HANDLING? how good can it be? it is just another family car. nothing special.
Headshok 1st Gear January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 i've sat in one b4, in the front seat, i adjusted so that i have tons of space ( like selfish mode) then i jumped into the back seat, still got space! as for engine wise, my frend who was driving it said the pick up was a tad sluggish for his linking, it was really smooth and quiet!! lastly, i have another friend who has an evo10 and an allion. he said no matter how hard he wacked the allion, he was averaging ard 14km/l on petrol! someone once told me the axio is the corolla chasis, the allion is on the corona chasis or something. it does remind me of a mini camry anyway, if i were in the market for some a car like that, i would really consider it! PERFECT HANDLING? how good can it be? it is just another family car. nothing special. I was quite amused of the overstated of the Civic too. Huge cabin space? Behind passenger seat, need to get used to for getting in and alighting and not really spacious for a 1.75m tall like me.
Biglittlebean 3rd Gear January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 I like Allion too! Just that I don't like that wiper at the back..... I driving a Civic now. Good car.... nonetheless, getting a little too common on the road for me.
Juzzme 3rd Gear January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 There is this other Toyota model that is grey imported...Premio. It looks almost identical to the Allion and the features are about the same too. Kinda confusing.... check it out http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_...p?CarCode=10556
Harveynorman Neutral Newbie January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 But why doesn't Toyota Japan bulid on the exact same platform of the altis and sell it in their shores? Why do they have to come up with the Axio, Allion, Premio in Japan? Why do they not use the same engine of the altis and put it in the Allion? Anybody know why? Zanter 3rd Gear January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 When u say u admire & sing praises of a Porsche, Bentley or Ferrari, its understandable. Of a civic & regular toyota? Arent you setting ur sights a bit low here?

Tohto Hypersonic January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 I am driving a Allion. I don't think Altis can compare with Allion. Just go and compare the build quality, the internal space, Allion is a class above, more like a mini camry. Allion wheel base is 2700mm (Altis only 2600mm). My driving pattern about 50/50% during weekday and a lot of short distance driving during weekend. I am getting 14-15km/l with rpm 3-4k during pick up. As for the Civic, it is a good car. But I think it is more like a sport saloon while Allion is more as a mini luxury saloon. They are for different market and customer base. There is no need to argue which is good which is bad, just buy the car individual like.
inlinesix Hypersonic January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 Perhaps I can share abit about BM's rationale as a distributor to answer your question. As the AD for Toyota, they are also responsible to come up with a certain level of sales as stipulated by Toyota Motor Corp Japan; apart from ensuring that BM themselves makes healthy profits to cover all its operational expenses. TMC Japan is fine with distributing to BM any model they wish, however, the catch is lies in that if BM brings in a certain model, they have to make sure that they can sell it according to TMC's target for that particular model. As such, the safe bet is to go with the lowest common denominator in terms of model offerings, which are pretty much generic, rather than niche, and be able to sell by huge numbers. Which is why, you'll see loads of Altis, Vios (and to a certain extent Camry for the luxury segment) flying off the shelves while other models such Picnic, Previa, Fortuner and Yaris are not so actively marketed as much compared to the former. I belive for Wish, it was an oversight on their part as they didn't expect it would become a popular choice of MPV and give the PIs headway in the market. And now its rather late to make the inroads. They probably gave up on Estima as well, which is why PIs have essentially dominated for that model. To both TS & Rankovic, Borneo Motor is d dealer for Toyota Motor Asic Pacific (TMAP). TMAP is the sole importer of Toyota in Sg. So, it up to TMAP & TMC's marketing strategy. What is the marketing strategy of TMAP? To sell vehicle that suit South East Asia (not juz Sg). What is the product lineup for this region? 1. Yaris; 2. Vios or belta in other market; 3. Corolla Altis or Corolla in other market; 4. Camry; 5. Wish ; 6. Avanza (not available in Sg); 7 Innova (not available in Sg); 8. Fortuner. Most of d countries within South East Asia sell the above lineup. However, TMAP do import certain low volume model, like Toyota Crown (not d taxi 1), to suit Jap expat market.

Allion/Premio utilised the same chassis as corolla. I hav included autozine review here Toyota Allion / Premio The engine code number is different from Vios. So I think it is slight different from Vios. But same as Axio. The chassis I think is different from Corolla. Allion is a replacement model for Carina in Japan. Carina susppose to be a model higher than Corolla in Japan. Corolla Axio = Corolla Altis. That's why their wheel base is same and internal is also almost same. Limxiaoming 2nd Gear January 30, 2009 Share January 30, 2009 (edited) My uncle just collected the Allion. $60+ k is a lot to pay for such a car? U must be kidding. How cheap u want it to be, 50K? I think the interior beats many, if not most of the cars in its league. The boot can fit in 3 adult corpses easily haha. I agree with friendstar. Its a really impressive car. Love it! Just then hes too emotional when promoting the Allion lah Edited January 30, 2009 by Limxiaoming
