Yup, 2.0 forester does not have sunroof. I went for Mits Outlander after forester as use to SUV drive and height.

any owners of the late 08 to 2009 or later 2.0 forester?

Are they underpowered?

Thinking of getting a used 2.0 or 2.5XT

I had the 09' Frosty. Personally, yes I feel it's a little underpowered. It got better after I went to MI (cos it was still under warranty) & did the E Throttle Controller but prepare to pay more. MI stuff don't come cheap.

The 2.5 might be more fun (for spirited driving) imo but I've read that there may be some issues with the turbo subsequently ... heard the same from a mechanic as well.

Whatever your choices are, enjoy the ride!

Ahhh i c. Anyway just hope the price drop jialat jialat for the next 2 mths. Heartpain to spend so much on new car so i probably wouldn't. [laugh]

Aiming for 08 or 09 2.5XT (most prob)

Just need feedback from bros here about the NEGATIVE pts.

1 more thing I forgot to add since you mentioned Negative. This one really takes the cake & it's also 1 of my personal pet peeves about the ride ... the front map reading lights don't come with "On, Door, Off" switch, so if you leave your doors open while cleaning your car - the bloody lights stay on all the way till the doors are closed, however long that may be.

No issues with the boot light & rear passenger light since it comes with such switches.

IMO, which bloody idiot designs electric switches for a car like that? or perhaps it's due to 'cost cuts'.

I only realised it after I had bought the car ...

yea quite retarded design.

LOL keep the negatives coming in!! See how much i can tahan. If i can stomach all the negative feedback all the bros give and still go for it, i would believe it's the car for me!!

Its likely to attract higher insurance cost compared to a CRV or RAV4.

Its only has 240hp

It only has 350nm of torque

U need to pay a lower roadtax for a 2.0 compared to a 2.5 for same power output.

AWD so FC higher than a similar size urban Suv

Enough bad points?

Still tahanable. [cool]

Insurance i believe not that far from CRV or RAV4. tried the instant quote on NTUC income website is ard 1.6k

FC - prob not so much of concern since all SUV drink petrol like nothing anyway.

The power and torque i think i would be satisfied with it. :)

Bring your family for a longer test drive and let them take the back seat. Mine didn't like the ride. Forrester is not for everyone, at least the old models.

Hmmm, did your back seat passengers say why? too firm ride? seats not comfy enough?

Yea i should probably bring my wife n daughter for a test drive. But do all 2nd hand dealers allow test?

Excessive body roll when driven hard due partially to soft suspension and not helped by high centre of gravity, my son told him he felt nauseated during the drive. If you usually drive in a sedate manner, it might work (I would recommend Toyota if that is your driving style, no point buying Subaru's AWD, turbo set up, but I love the 2.5l Legacy).

You should be able to test drive, otherwise how to part with at least 30k cash....

i tested the new rav4 n found the suspension on d harsh side which is surprising, in fact more harsh than say the new bmw x3. Even the old toyota vios had a better suspension..

Looks good but styling wise subaru really got to work on that. I wondering whether the TC engine is similar to the one used in BRZ or AE86. That engine at low revs is multi-port injection and at higher rev dan it's direct injection. Actually the Japanese car makers did go into direct injection engines, I saw on youtube Honda engineers mentioned that for DI engines they are not fuel efficient and has high emissions on low revs.

In the BRZ the 2.0L NA engine is now on timing belt instead of the previous chain belt. Dunno if Forester is using the same engine+TC?

According to this website the CVT can change from 6 speed to 8 speed when S#/I is switched on... http://www.cars101.com/subaru/forester/forester2014.html

"The 2.0XT models: all new high-torque CVT with new 6 and 8 speed Paddle Shifters. The driver controllable SI drive setting determines whether the transmission shifts with 6 or 8 speeds (8 in the sportier S# mode)."

Dunno whether got the rubber band effect like the old CVT gearbox? Since it has a sport and sportier mode hopefully no rubber band. Most importantly throttle is responsive to the foot input, so does the gearbox and steering when sport mode on.

They also dropped the hydraulic steering for a new electric power steering- "less drag on the engine" so they say.

X-mode is soft off-roading + hill descend.

Actually it's not impressive on looks or specs.

Bro i'm sick of toyotas, they're usually problem free but i'm interested to try something else lol.

Alright will go for the test drive first, no pt if no one likes the car except me.

Haven't tried but I believe shouldn't have rubber band effect. Even qashqai cvt oso crisp.

bro u won't be disappointed, NO rubberband effect n throttle very LINEAR, unlike vw, citroen n kia (1st half throttle like pulling armor vehicle, only 2nd half will have sudden burst of power; wc i don't like).

despite being tall, it corners confidently - as i was turnin fr alex to leng kee, i accelerated n it gripped without screechin n roll. needless to tok about straight line liao.

oh ya, n don't look at car photo. look at showroom real car. i find it better looking than on photo. didn't realize car also have photogenic issues lol.

For SUV, I actually prefer stiffer suspension as we don't go offroad that often, hence I cannot buy SUV, my passengers will suffer. :D
