Re-location package

does anyone knows what kind of package typically one ask for if there is a need to be re-located, i have a friend whom a german company wants to offer him a job in Munich and he is blur about what to ask for... so am i..

 

any advice?

ask for at least 5 fig sum with vehicle and housing provided for..otherwise, dun bother..

is that a norm for re-location? also if they package the accomodation under your pay package, that should be ok, right?

I feel 5 fig is norm...if not, dun seem really worth it to me for all the trouble..I believe if you earning 6K in SG, why go for a 8-9K in overseas?

 

if accom is included in the monthly salary, make sure the fig is really substantial cos housing in germany is expensive..

it all depends on where you get relocated to .

 

big MNCs have in house policies and formulas.

 

Germany should have a higher cost of living index than singapore, so the pay will be adjusted accordingly. also if he is chosen to go instead of he choose to go, they will pay more to compensate.

 

Housing is very important and so is taxes. make sure both are covered.

otherwise may end up with less in real terms.

he will be re-located to munich and the company is not big MNCS. they offer him to go there and tax will be paid by the company. the company invite him to go munich to negotiate on the total package, that why he need to find out more on this area.

Well, based on my personal experience.

 

1. Company Car (Either they lease for him or make sure there is a sum negotiated.)

2. Housing

3. Insurance (Not too sure abt Germany's health care in the States, insurance for vision, medical, dental must be covered)

4. Setting up Fee (About a few K to buy all the furniture etc)

5. Home Trip (At least once a year sponsored by the company)

6. Annual Vacation. What's going to happen to the SIN annual leave after he goes over. This also must think abt coz my SIN leave cannot be brought over to USA...

 

I'm still a junior staff so this is all that was negotiated.

According to mercer's table, Singapore & Munich has d same living std. Because ciggy & alcohol is more expensive.

sometimes big mnc can be quite stingy.. they don't adjust your pay.. just give you the allowance and claim within the limit. but of course, job level will probably help

Don't forget to ask for entertainment allowance or so-called "miss home" allowance. Some companies do give that to make up for the lost of time with loved ones.

Depends how highly ranked your friend is.

 

If his position is really high, he can ask for relocation $$$ for his family as well. Don't forget international school fees for children.

Like some had said. Re-location package should be at least around $15K. If you are married, they should also pay 50% of your wife's last drawn pay + kids education + medical. Housing may be paid 100% by the company or they will a fix sum allowance. Car or transport allowance should also be included. Return tickets usually will be part of the package....probably once a year.

 

The other matter is to check with the company on tax issues. Are you going to pay singapore rate and the company pay the balance, etc...

He is joining a German company in Munich, meaning he will resigned from his current job and join the new company in Munich with no local office in SG. If that is the case, is home trip still applicable?
