There are a white opaque infront of the iris. At certain angle, you can't read a word or the word is a bit blurlish. Only way to confirm is to see a eye optician or polyclinic.

It can happen at any age but more serious when reaching 40+. Lasik if I am not mistaken is to correct the degree but cataract appear in front of your eye's len. Need operation to shave off a layer and a new 'soft' len is insert to replace it. Thereafter, your eye vision is super sharp and the surrounding is much blueish.

Before ops, I use to wear glasses but after ops, can throw away those glasses .... [bounce2]

Just wanted to share with all here the recent cataract surgery I had.

Preparation was simple, only antibiotics required prior to the op 2 days before.

Day of op, fasted for 6 hrs and was a day surgery technique. Technique used was the phaco emulsification one and what it meant was removal of the lens and reinsertion of a new one.

I was in and out of the OT as faster than a QQ can reach Bukit Panjang to CIQ [lipsrsealed][lipsrsealed] . Waiting time was longer than total OP time. I have regained my vision fully and tested to be 6/6.

Those contemplating please go ahead and go for it. Effortless

wow, good to hear, congrats.

I am one victim.....feel a bit depressed. [bigcry]

Imagine i am just over 40 not long ago and now gonna this eye disease that commonly only happened to the older folks around 60s.

But mine was one side of the eyes only. Affecting mainly my day to day activity like looking into computer screen and at night can see halos, starbursts.

Anyone here got it? Can share the experience? Surgery?

I think nowadays eye diseases which suppose to hit people in their old age, but people who are in their 30s or 40s might also get it could be quite common. But most importantly is to get it treated early and able to recover still not so bad lo

Same like 'lao hua', some people also get it in their mid or late 30s, which suppose to get it when you are in your 40s or older. Thinking it is got to do with our daily routine task which involved too much on gadgets and computer stuff?!

TS, I had cataract over one eye. Discovered by accident in 2012. I was 34 then. Did not realise that one side was blurred cos the other eye compensated. Anyway went to A&e cos tot it was an emergency only to be told it was cataract. I mean if u suddenly lost ur vision first thing u will think about is some sdamage and not cataract.

Anyway I went for surgery at SNEC.

Surgery was painless but u r conscious. While u cannot see anything, it makes things worse cos u imagine a lot. I am a nurse who scrubbed for eye operations before during attachment but I was still scared.

Surgery lasted for an hour. After that u r given some rest before discharge. U HAVE TO SEE THE DOCTOR FOR FOLLOW UP THE NEXT DAY. Believe me. Dun miss it. Ur eye is not used to the implant so the eyeball will feel like exploding.

When I saw the doctor the next day, was in agony because there was no way to relieve the pain. I got my timolol eye drops for the pressure. They eye drops hurt the eye a lot but ot relieved the pressure.

After the first two days, I was ok already. Rested at home. Had follow ups before given a prescription to see the optician for new glasses since the implant would affect my eye degree.

Btw I skipped a lot on pre surgery checks and post surgery checks. I think u more interested in how the surgery is like, right?

Anyway its ok. Not hard but the doctor told me usually if u have a cataract on one eye the other eye will get affected eventually so I am waiting :(

Hi TS,

Not to worry I had on my right eye years back. It started when I have to change my glasses after 3 months thought the prescription was wrong but was advise by my optometry to see an eye doctor and was diagnose with cataract on one eye.

Had several pre-ops check up follow by a day surgery lasted for half a day after that next day follow up check up follow by next week then becomes half yearly.

During ops I was put to sleep so when I wake up everything was done I was told to go home and rest.

Good thing is my degree reduce from 700 to 100.

My cataract surgery and recovery is totally unlike yours. Went in, got changed, lie on the stretcher, they numbed my eye and wheeled into operating theatre. Was conscious all the time

and all i could see was bright lights and op was over in about 10 to 15 minutes.

Went home and slept rest of the afternoon cos of the anaesthetics and didnt feel any pain or discomfort at all. Had 28 days hospitalisation leave and my degree dropped from 1000 to 100 degrees. ;)
