MR SENG Han Thong, MP for Yio Chu Kang, was taken to Singapore General Hospital (SGH) on Sunday afternoon for burn wounds after someone hurled a flammable liquid at him.

 

The Straits Times understands that someone threw the liquid at Mr Seng, 58, while he was at grassroots event at Yio Chu Kang commmunity club.

 

It is unclear how badly injured Mr Seng is.

 

Another man, said to be the chairman of a temple, was also hurt and has been brought to SGH.

 

The suspect, believed to be a man, has been arrested.

 

Mr Seng had been attacked before in July 2006 when he was punched in the face by an irate former cabby.

 

That incident took place at around 9pm, during a Meet-the-People session held at a PAP Community Foundation kindergarten at Block 644, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4. According to a report in Shin Min Daily News, Mr Seng was assaulted by a 74-year-old man who was angry with the MP for not helping him to get his revoked taxi licence reinstated.

 

After voicing his displeasure, the man was said to have punched Mr Seng once, before he was held back.

I heard from CNA that he sustain a 10 degree burn .Imagine if a MP here got kill/murder in broad daylight during his tour of duty , confirm international headline .

Then the meet-the-prople-session may strictly by appointment liao and will be conducted in a 'controlled' environment.

goes to show people are more fed up now. no use passing laws to jail people for assualting mps. no use assigning a security detail. when people are pissed and you restrict them from meeting the mp, might as well vote in alternative. at least the alternative not cocky or rely on security detail
