What fact? Dont anyhow say.

Hyundai sold more cars than Mazda, Subaru, and Susuki in 2008. You mean Mazda, Subaru, Susuki not considered jap ride? [sweatdrop]

The fact is for jap car or korea car, nowadays mostly can sell at scrap plus a little bit$. So you dont care your car got real buyer or sold to who as long as you can trade in

U hav to view it comparitively. Apple to apple. Meaning a 1.6L avante vs a 1.6L sedan from other jap manufacturers. And if you look at the singapore market as a whole, korean cars are ALOT lesser than jap cars despite it being significantly more affordble. Y?

If Hyundai were to count their vehicle sales of only their 1.6L - 2L cars vs brands like mazda or even subaru, I don't think they sell more cars in this segment.

I believe Getz is the reason why the sales for Hyundai's overall sales is higher. Everywhere I turn my head i see a getz...as for Avante/Trajet/Azera? Not so frequent.

There is very few models from jap manufacturers to compete in Getz's segment.

gone are the days where resale value of jap cars are high. isn't it time for jap car owners to realize that?

Yes there is a difference, perhaps 2 or 3K more for a comparable model. There is no such thing as high resale value.

Getz is a pretty tough ride, been driving it since 04 till now and it's still serving me well with no major problem, servicing is cheap (I never service my ride at KMC since day one [flowerface] )except FC isn't that good....Yes, even now I still see lots of pre-fl getz on the road... [drivingcar]

Attracted to I30, considering whether or not to change it...price is coming down as compared when it was just launched...

if its a getz 1.1 manual, the fc is very good.

for 1.4 and 1.6 auto, please note that this is a small car with small engine n the gear ratio is tuned more for a fun n zippy drive. if u wan good fc, a simple way is to allow the gear change from 1st to 2nd at a lower rpm (lighter foot pressure) n then increase your pressure from 2nd gear, u will see a drop in fc. try it :)

Avante, carens even the sportage already cheap and good, still can't fight the numbers of toyota and hondas on sg road.....

Drop a few more $k won't rocket the their sales too...

I guess singaporean mindset not too easy to change overnight.

mindset is the thing, they just take what other people said as the gospel truth. A lie when repeated often enough becomes the truth.

yeah agree... the price of i30 is still expensive.

come on... its a korean brand.... when comes to resale, it suffers....

Just wondering, how much more will an agent pick up Altis/Vios above the paper value compared to say Avante/Rio/Aveo/Optra... 10K more?

Only then we shall see how much better resale value it will be.... my experience.. no much diff.. at most 2K more... but NOW ... no difference at all.

I could be wrong..

my friend... very sad case

bought SGW altis G10 Thai about 1+ year ago.

prior to that, i told him to buy kia cerato V2 instead as its more value for money.

he said Altis high resale value, TOYOTA, solid refinement, saves LOTS OF FUEL etc etc. He took 7 year loan

and he got retrenched. 1 month payout only. and he cannot sell his altis cos resale value is very low.

so what's the hype about high jap resale value?

If he had bought a Cerato V2 as you recommended he might be in a deeper hole than he is with the Altis. Because Cerato V2 has been subject to price cuts by C&C in anticipation for the new Forte. I believe they sold it as low as 36k at one point (correct me if I am wrong).

the truth is, no matter altis or cerato, he cannot sell.

he has to absorb the fixed cost of owning the car now.

tats where the advantage of a lower priced car comes in.

at that time altis was 56-58k

while cerato was 10k cheaper.

10k difference with the 7 years interest....

If he had financed the car on 70% loan for 7 years he shouldn't have too much problem getting rid of it in about 2 years without having to top up for it.

It really depends on the finance plan he took.

In any case, the car market has gone south and it would actually be better to keep the car and try to tough it out, than to sell it and realize the paper losses.

Pardon my arrogance... I just cannot accept the words Better Resale Value any make anymore. To me, even the picanto is the same value as the Altis. Just the paper value that matters.

Thus, those buying cheaper/ better value cars stands a better chance of narrowing the finance gap!....

High resale value for cars.. it's a myth.. yes I know, the truth hurts!... so stop saying K,Ch,Conti cars suffers resale value big time... we are all in the same boat..

so just enjoy your ride to the fullest.. I believe the i30 is one of those that gives better rides than the so-called better resale value cars.. We buy cars to drive them, not to sell it...
