U're right. If only the i30 is not more expensive then the impreza 1.5, it would sell well.

Avante, carens even the sportage already cheap and good, still can't fight the numbers of toyota and hondas on sg road.....

Drop a few more $k won't rocket the their sales too...

I guess singaporean mindset not too easy to change overnight.

Impreza 1.6 around $47k if I remember the ad correctly. That seems a very attractive price.

My father-in-law used to own one and he drove it for 10 years w/o any repair (except one time batt died) until COE expired. His previous was a Legacy. Also drove 10 years w/o repair until COE expired.

I've test driven the i30 and I personally don't think the car is powerful/luxurious. It however, definately does not feel like a budget car in anyway.

Thus, the price should not be more than the impreza hatchback or Honda fit 1.5 if they really want the sales to move.

bro u mind sharing which 1.6 models you are comparing to when you mention luxurious? However yes i agree that it is not a powerful car for our cheongster bros here. At 1.3 Tons with a DOHC 1.6L engine, it is hardly a race car [sweatdrop] but i dont think Hyundai have that in mind when they design it. [flowerface]

The new Hyundai tuscani with rear wheel drive is another matter but only left hand drive [shakehead]. Price is also not know yet.

in short, its still near jap maker's quality.. -_-

bro it depends on how you look at it. Quality can be performance and appearance so i'm not sure which one you are talking about therefore i'm not gonna comment on that. However i do like to share my experiences with you.

For example i owned a 3G honda city for 4 years and i decided to change a new ride for myself. i was thinking of selling off my old city to get a new city which i find the 5G very sport and capativating. I went back to Honda and i found the price of the new 5G city is still very high, the price qouted to me was 60K++. Went to Toyota, and as usual, no SE bothers to serve me so i got turn off and walk away but the price for their vios and altis, wish is around 50K+. Went to suburu and saw the new impreza which is very cool design but unfortunately the booth space is a turn off. i'm a family man so i need a big booth space to store my child seat and my monthly groceries. LGT is sadly out of my budget...

To cut the long story short, i went to Hyundai out of boredom and look at the avante and to my surprise a new model i30 was there and it was instantly love at first sight.

Summary - price i got less it for then 60K with body kit, 17" rims, Vcool and other standard accessories

Interial - definately better then the same range of cars from Jap brands

Performance - lost to jap brands here becoz of the heavy body 1.3T with only a 1.6L DOHC to drive it but that is not my main concern as i dont intend to race with anyone.

FC - Definately poorer then my 3G city *i got around 12-15l/km* but with the new 5G placing at that kind of high price which i cal is roughly 10K difference, i can use this extra 10K which i save to a much better use.

European only in the looks department.

Then ride refinement is far from a 60+K european car like:

- Citroen C4

- Renault Megane (2003 model)

- Ford Focus

- Skoda octavia

- Opel Corsa

- Peugeot 207

etc

etc

Funny i tried a focus before but the gagets and interial is much lesser then the i30 IMHO. nevertheless i will check them out again juz in case i am wrong :)

humm IMHO impreza has a good interial but lack booth space. For altis, i dont like the seats as they tend to be too big.

side track abit, does the new camry drop in terms of their interal quality? The older versions looks much better..

Impreza hatchback has much lower quality at least for the interiors and impreza 1.5 is a cheap japanese car priced below 50k. Nowaday, you think japanese car can still command a step premium above koreans'? Fat hope.

But the fact is, most of the car buyers are still willing to spend more $ on a lower spec jap ride than a korean. Sales figures will tell u that.

I am not anti korean, as I own a kia rio 1.4M hatch as well...got problems selling it because of extremely bad resale value that is worse than a conti ride.

What fact? Dont anyhow say.

Hyundai sold more cars than Mazda, Subaru, and Susuki in 2008. You mean Mazda, Subaru, Susuki not considered jap ride? [sweatdrop]

The fact is for jap car or korea car, nowadays mostly can sell at scrap plus a little bit$. So you dont care your car got real buyer or sold to who as long as you can trade in

gone are the days where resale value of jap cars are high. isn't it time for jap car owners to realize that?
