China action star Jacky Wu Jing created uproar among Wing Chun martial art followers when he claimed he does not know who Ip Man is. The followers pointed out that this is an insulting comment and Wu's frivolous attitude is an utter disrespect to the spirit of Ip Man. Wu defends himself by saying that he did not mean to be show disregard.

Wing Chun followers held a press conference on Saturday, in allegation of Wu's disrespect for Ip Man. It was said that during a press conference for movie "Wolf Fang" on Nov 20, Wu asked: "Who is Master Ip Man?" despite knowing that Ip is the grand master of Wing Chun martial art and also of action hero Bruce Lee. Wu also proclaimed himself to be the only martial art champion among China's population of 1300million.

The eight councils present at the press conference on Saturday questioned Wu's claim as champion by pointing out that Wu had only took part in youth competitions but never represented China in any international competitions. The councils also expressed interest in sending one male and one female disciple onto the arena to engage in matches with Wu where losing party will have to donate $500,000 for charitable purposes. They also allowed Wu to quote the amount the he can afford if he is unable to raise the large sum. The councils offered to fork out the rest of the money.

When asked if Ip Man's son Ip Chun is aware of the incident, the councils say they will not alarm the elder, but believe that he will support the cause if he knows the act is to protect the reputation of their grand master.

With respect to this matter, Wu's spokesperson says, he did not mean to show disrespect to Ip Man, and also expressed doubts on why the councils are only pursuing the issue one month after it happened. The spokesperson says, they have no other comments on the matter, but express thanks to the councils for the publicity they have given to Wu and "Wolf Fang".
