for me I felt it works... don't flame my butt please. I work in CBD.

In the past, people are cruising and showing off their ride around CBD. If their destination is China Town, they will cruise from CK Tangs to Cathay to Raffles City to Boat Quay then to China Town.

Created a lot of unnecessary traffic and congestion. Now, with the extra gantries, driving is a breeze.

As for those who drives into CBD once a while, I felt sorry for you having to pay "lesson fee" to learn the hard way. A little planning before you set off for your destination should help both your pocket as well as traffic condition.

if u enter by istana and heading toward suntec, u will also kana 2 ERP.

I think the next time Amazing Race come to Singapore, one of the task can be going from check point to check point with $5 cash card [rolleyes]

Its used to be "never leave home without it" for credit card. Now it will be cash card........

yeah, the CBD is no longer just cordoned from its borders, within the CBD, it's further divided into a few different sectors that are cordoned by some more ERP gantries.. but with proper route planning, one does not need to pass thru more then one gantry to reach a certain destination within the CBD.

Unless going thru to different parts of the CBD at the same time, then will hit a few ERP gantries bah! [;)]

I am assuming u own an OPC haha. In Singapore, owning car is crazy.

1 normal (moms), 1 OPC (mine) in the household :)

Excluding fuel, parking and ERP together would have increased my cost by about $280 per month (after ezlink costs are deducted), and I would save only 15-20mins of traveling time per day. Not to mention the extra $17k in the bank, and that I get to have my 20min powernap on the ride back :D During "peak hours" I also get to use the normal car most of the times i need it so its no big deal having an OPC.

For my mom since we stay within the fringe of the ERP area, she does not have to pay any ERP to get to work as her work is not in any of the three sub-areas of the CBD, and since she's in management, a parking lot is allocated to her. In her case, there's also the route the bus travels, which means she has to travel at least an hour extra per day if she took public transport. I'm luckier as the bus route is both the fastest and quickest route back for me, thats why the only extra time is the time the bus stops at the bus-stops, but with the bus-lanes, that stopping time is almost negligible.

Basically after all that BS :p I'm saying that driving in singapore is all about planning, and its not just about routes as another bro said :)
