Jrage 1st Gear December 28, 2008 Share December 28, 2008 Audi as a brand has done a few things since Audi Singapore took over the importer role. The cars they introduced so far, starting from the pre-facelift A3 Sportback 1.8 TFSI (back in September 07), has had one trait; The car is fully loaded with options but has very very low OMV. This strategy works for people who compare selling price and tick boxes on options they feel needed in a car. You take the A4 (even the attraction) and compare that to the entry level 320. You take the A5 and compare that to E92. The Audis are loaded with stuff and they sell at or around the same price of their competitors. Those who are more careful and actually know a thing or two about vehicular tax structure will be very quick to point out the unusually large gross margin of Audi cars. It is not uncommon that they are in excess of 100% of OMV. Take the A4 as an example, Ambition trim, 39K OMV, selling at about 136K at today's COE level (3K); the gross margin? 43K or 110% of OMV. Many would think 136K buy you a lot of car, fancy LED headlight, xenon, sport seat, S-line body kit, 17" sport rim, etc etc .. and by all means, it is good value if you look at options vs buying price, but for many others, it is just unthinkable to give away 43K. Work out the margin for 320 or IS 250 .. you will know what I mean. This post is by no mean "for" or "against" Audi, it is just my humble observation (all figures are openly available in the internet and formula published by LTA) and I mean no harm to any particular car brands. Actually the COE rebate level of The audi is quite decent, 8k.. So For example if the selling price is 136k, with a 3k COE, you get a rebate of 5k off the selling price. I believe in letting the car in stock condition .. To add in the additional option aftermkt , run the risk of damaging the working of the car and since it expensive to service the BM/ Audi . Frankly, i rather have those options in and make up part of the omv than dumping the money later... Frankly, /looking at last mth basic cost according to LTA. I think the Audi is quite attractive compared to other models. http://www.onemotoring.com.sg/publish/onem...Cost_Update.pdf Total basic cost (Nov '08) according to LTA A4 1.8T FSI MU CVT ABS D/AB 2WD 4DR - > $90,667 A4 1.8T FSI MU S-LINE CVT ABS D/AB HID -> $97,681 320I 2.0L AT ABS HID D/AIRBAG 2WD 4DR -> $99,011 320I AT 2.0L ABS D/AIRBAG 2WD 4DR -> $88,383 LEXUS IS250 AUTO STD FL -> $93,803 ↡ Advertisement

When I stepped into the audi showroom in sep this yr, they were still pushing the A4 attraction to me at 136K..1 month later, I was told it can be had at 125K...and now even lower since Nov onwards which of cos is partly due to the sharp drop in coe.. Kelpie 2nd Gear December 28, 2008 Share December 28, 2008 The 3.2L is really good value for money because it has every single option for the price of a 325 coupe. The same cannot be said for their service department as a bunchful of my father's friend who has owned Audis before complained the dealer not honouring warranty claims. Eg. Q7 engine shut down, electrical off, no power steering on Expressway. I have no prior experience with Audi so I am not sure if that is true or not. It is best you check out the Audi forums in Singapore and see if a certain so and so can hook you up with a reliable service advisor. I've sat in the A4 3.2L on several occasion but the rear cabin is very tight. Only good for small family of 4. Not the last word for spaciousness and comfort for 188K of Conti made. Comparing Renault Laguna (4695 x 2060 x 1445) with an A4 (4703 x 1826 x 1427), i agree with you that the Audi is rather small. Or with the S60 (4603 x 1804 x 1428) , i think A4 is kind of similar if not bigger . :| Edited December 28, 2008 by Jrage

I've said this before and only if you go really sit in an A4, pay attention to rear aircon vents, it's protruding out, you will have problem crossing leg from one side to the other. Are you driving an A3? Your avatar seems to suggest so. The A3 rear space may not lose out to the A4 by a large margin actually.

Yup.. test drived the A4 before..Boot space not as small as Kelpie suggest.. Frankly, if I am able to sit 3 adults behind quite comfortably... If I sit 2 adult behind, I will be be able to lower down the hand-rest. and yes, that a A3 you see in my avatar. Preferred the performance of this A3 since the price is the same. Preferred the performance of this A3 since the price is the same. It would appear the A4 Quattro has a bigger boot space compared to the 3 series. The leg room in my opinion was not as spacious as I thought it would be considering Audi increased the overall length of the B8 series.
