Gigacrusher Neutral Newbie December 20, 2008 Share December 20, 2008 Hi Bros, Does anyone know of a place where I can do the above-mention at a reasonable price? Kah Motor is charging $460 to change the cabron bushings for my Civic. Am also wondering if I get a better deal if I do it in JB. Any recommendations if anyone knows? Many thanks in advance. Cheerss and a blessed Christmas to all. Rgds, GS ↡ Advertisement

Kianbeng Clutched December 20, 2008 Share December 20, 2008 Just changing the carbon brush cost $460? That seems to be the price of a starter. Isn't it? Or Honda's starter is super expensive? Technically it's very possible for starters to be serviced / brushes replaced. But it seems that in Singapore, the workshops here replace the starter instead of servicing it. Blue850r Clutched December 20, 2008 Share December 20, 2008 Kah motor being Agent got to charge premium labour. I think the carbon brushes and bearings are cheap, Less than $100 for parts. They charge for diagnostic and labour at $120/hr.

Woolh Neutral Newbie December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 I previously serviced my starter motor before at a w/s in woodlands. my car is also civic es5. If I remember correctly, to replace the motor is $300+. let me know if you want more info abt the workshop. Best Regards, Woo
Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 wow thats quite good money. Better than a doctor's hourly rates.
Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 thats happening to me now. My W210 steering wheel has been noisy when steering since day 1. Now after 7 years, beginning to think I should fix it. I went to a few shops and they told me they are afraid if they open the steering wheel, the airbag may come off. But if they take away the battery before doing it, they are worried the W210 cannot start (common problem). So end up i think I really have to go back to agent for this job also. Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 Forgot to say last time I was adventurous enough. My starter had problems - doesn't extend out enough so cranking will be noisy. So I dismantled the starter (3 nuts only) took it out, bought a small tin of high speed grease (still at home now ) and started greasing the gears. Put it back and it was perfect! Perhaps you can try it. Nowadays in Singapore, most workshops are keen to replace things, not repair things. I mean how much can they charge you if they grease it and it works? Coupe07 Neutral Newbie December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 pardon my ignorance bro.. wats high speed grease?
Blue850r Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 Yes you are rite. Agent's mechanic got morning and afternoon tea break. So productivity very low. Many steps to ensure quality of work done. Hence the premium. Our forum friend should change to used starter or buy those factory re-con starter. Starter seldom spoil. Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 got different grade of grease for different type of application. It's written on the tin/tube. You just have to use the right grease for the right job I guess. Otherwise if you put normal grease in your wheel hub, it'll wear off very quickly. Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 I rather recon my own starter than buying someone else old starter and getting it recond. It's just my mentality
Blue850r Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 You got me wrong. I was saying either get a factory recon unit (looks like new) or get a used unit from scrap yard (those japan import) at Sungei Kadut area. Maybe $50 only and can last for many years. Compared to Kah Motor.
Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 oh ok. Scrap yard $50 can get? I think our scrap yards here have a tough time. Most of the cars here are on the road on avg 5-6 years before they are scrapped. And so the new models/facelifts keep on coming and so it's so hard to keep parts that are still current. Blue850r Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 Those so car scrap yard means they import the spare engine, transmission, seats in containers from Japan real scrap yard. Today our cars so call scrap will not end up in these yards but instead in export car zones. You can find cheap stuff like power window motor, but usually they sell you whole door with window for $100 and you take what you want. For Conti cars it is Propel Auto who does this. Most of them at Sungei Kadut area.

Kianbeng Clutched December 21, 2008 Share December 21, 2008 wow thanks for good info. I would like to check them out for my W210 sun visors. Both the mirror covers on them broke. Think it's due to bad design? And the spare part shops don't sell such things. ↡ Advertisement
