overall a nice luxurious car to drive. more luxurious than the 3er or the 93.

to smoke WRX, get the R model.

i was on the T5 for a few months.

yes, watch the turning radius, volvos are famous for big radii.....

If buy new, no more car phone option. This was 1 of the reason I bought then. Bought another SIM card for it. Even have a handset in the compartment btn the front seats for passengers behind to use.

When using, there's a mike at around the driver sun visor for voice and other caller's voice is projected thru speakers in the head rest.

That sounds like a good feature! Is it found in other Volvo current models? or other conti cars?

Hi there,

Have not test driven one yet but thought the performance specification and price are quite ok. BMW and Mercz are just too common. Anyone driving this L5 car presently? Wanted to know the car interm of:

a) Space and comfort (compare with Saab 9.5, BMW 5 and Audi and Mercz equivalent)

b) Ease of maintenance and general reliability(Turbo)?

c) Resales (Is it any weaker than Audi and Saab?)

d) Can last the next 10 years?

e) Fuel frugal to drive around as I need to meet clients every now and then.

If you have other information, please feel free to let me know.

Thank you very much.

Regards,

The gearbox has a problem, not sure whether it was resolved. My friend sold off his S60 for a Subaru Legacy... and vowed never to get a Conti again!

Nowadays conti cars use bluetooth car kit liao... factory built-in. It is similar to car phone. First time use must do pairing... afterthat it will auto detect everytime you enter your car as long as your mobile phone bluetooth is 'on'. Can make/receive call handfree through the car front panel button, sound is from the car speakers.

After dumping Aston Martin, Land Rover, Jaguar and Mazda, Ford may next dump Volvo, not sure if some of these auto-makers will be around in the next 3 to 5 years. Few in the US are buying G.M. now (assuming Americans are still buying)as there may not be anyone around to supply the parts a few years down the roads. Another consideration these days when choosing the next set of wheels to own.

Subaru Legacy rear cabin space is just too tight for the family. I test drove them before but too bad, I just don't like the size. Thanks.

It is a valid concern, which is also in my thought too. Volvo has its very own distinctive characteristics. Even if it is sold by Ford but I'm quite sure there would be wlling buyers but hopefully not China or TATA. Just thinking aloud, do you think VW or BMW will buy Volvo?

Car makers are a promiscuous bunch, there have been rumours of Volvo getting into bed with VW or Saab and Saab/Volvo sleeping with BMW. A possible scenario is a nationalized Volvo if this crisis dragged on forever, not sure if any car manufacturer is on the lookout for new purchases (notice Mazda bought itself), with the lack of visibility in 2009 and beyond. The Chinese definitely has the deeper pocket and will be keen to buy a global brand with good technology. It is becoming a volume game these days and the small one just can't survive alone.

I drove a family owned Volvo 850 GLT many years ago, it offers a better drive than most Japanese sedans but ours broke down often after the first 4-5 years of ownership. The QC may be better these days and many Volvo owners may think otherwise, but I have no faith in the reliability of Volvo beyond the first 3 years of new ownership.

Volvo gearbox at made by Aisin which is Japanese. They also use Toyota ATF, so you should have some confidence in them. Engine wise, it is a proven work horse for many years.

S60 should be due for a model change. It was produced since 1999.

In used car market, Saab 9-5 appears to be a better buy.
