why pay 80k for an ugly car? and a car that is also available in a smaller engine=not a big car at the first place.

at least civic and lancer is a much better looker.

mazda 6 if arn same price is a good deal

though mazda 6 FC terrible [lipsrsealed]

Many readers who have never sat in a Sylphy, judge the car by the looks and so derive that it is slow, boring and ugly, hence not as worthy as other makes like civic and such. this shows how naive they are. Car makers do not just make cars to look sporty, which they can, like the Nissan GT which is much more powerful and fierce than what Honda and others offer as an alternative. The truth is, it is practical, comfortable and conservatively styled cars which sells in volume, not a necessarily a sporty looking car. Thats why despite it's popularity, Honda actually reported that they suffered a 10% drop in their car sales, which is comparatively higher than Nissan and Toyota. In fact, having worked in Japan for over a year, I can vouge that in Japan, the most populous car make on the road is nonetheless, Nissan. Yup, not Toyota, definately not Honda.

So my point of this post is, dont anyhow shoot merely base on pure perception without actual experience. Btw, just for the record, I drive an Accord, while my family member owns a Sylphy, and I can tell you the Sylphy is as comfortable and torquey, for more than 10k less in price. The only thing is, the Sylphy looks ultra conservative. And the key word here is 'looks'.

If the Sylphy was that good, why didnt u save the 10k and get it instead of the Accord?

Please suggest to me what sort of experience do you want? So many articules and margazines on comparsion between the Bluebird, Mitsubishi and Civic, who is always the slowest one and been criticized for look? We already mentioned that Slyphy forte is built for comfort.

You want to arrange a race on a Slyphy at PG race track?

Regards,

Cool down bro, not everyone is performance-biased. Those who bought slyphy will be those looking for comfort and spacious car. my uncle's friend has one slyhpy, it is indeed a nice car, very comfortable, quiet and spacious. though the bhp figures may look low, in no way it is slow, the engine is tuned for low end torque hence explains the low bhp figures. low end torque is plenty and can be very useful on day-to-day driving, overtaking is effortless since u don't have to rev high just to gain ur high end power.

Though the price premium may not justify the purchase, it is a nice car nonetheless, just a bit too pricy. at 83k, i'll top up to get the basic mazda 6 anytime, drive like a conti, though it'll be just another slow and not track-worthy car to you. to each his own, right? [grouphug]

Turbocharged

the 2.0l slyphy is quite expensive but the 1.5l one is pretty cheap. At least MUCH cheaper than the corresponding Civic.

For me, the car must be comfortable to drive and cheap. I also want the built in GPS screen which is much tidier and the reverse sensor. Both of which is very useful for me, much more than faster acceleration or pickup.

I wonder why ppl like to compare cars in such ways??

Anyway there's no such thing as a cheap car, only affordable ones. For cars that are out of your budget, dun make it sound like sour grapes " At least MUCH cheaper than the corresponding Civic. ". So be it if you can only afford cheap cars...opps...I mean affordable cars. Work harder to driver more premium cars.

actually 1.5L slyphy's acceleration or pickup is not so bad as ppl thinking, ever attended Nissan Driveaway to Malaysia, found 1.5L slyphy doesn't lose my Sunny 1.6M when overtaking heavy vehciles on federation road [thumbsup]

The head lite got 2 "horn" so will assist in judging the car's front end. But with the amount of money paid and still not disc brakes. feel being cheated of something.

Power rating in paper is good, never driven one so don't know.

slyphy 1.5 not underpower at all. How to define underpower?

I feel slyphy is slightly better ride than altis.

I dunno about its FC though. If 11-12km/l, consider normal and good.

Don't judge this post becos my dad drives one, but honestly, the ride quality, and acceleration, would surpass Altis by a notch.

My personal opionion even latio surpasses the altis(the pre-facelift model) in ride quality and comfort. Was given a a Altis as replacement while my latio was in the workshop. Everythin inside feels cheap. The plasticky panel feels like they got their supplies from $1.99 shop. Accelration seems to be better, but I realise that Altis felt to be faster at a given speedo reading. What I meant was when Altis reach 50km/h, it feels much faster than my latio as the same speed. Maybe that's why I was given the impression it was accelerating to crusiing speed faster.

Nissan Sylphy 2.0 (A) at $83,000 dizzy.gif

Honda Civic 2.0 Si (A) at $78,600 wink.gif

Mitsubishi Lancer EX 2.0 GT (A) at $77,988 wink.gif

All are genuine Japanese cars, Don't understand why Sylphy price is higher than Civic and Lancer so muchconfused.gif

although Civic and Lancer performance are better than Sylphylipsrsealed.gif

If want to pay 83K for sylphy, might as well get a Mazda 6 which is now around this price level as well and is a far better car..

Nissan Teana 200XL (2L model) at $75k (OMV ~$30k). Is Teana a better choice compare to Sylphy; Civic; Lancer; Mazda6; Camry in term of price and performance? Send my car for service this morning and drop by the Tan Chong showroom to look see look see. The Sales man told me Teana is made in Japan. "Everything" from Japan including Leather seat. I think price is decent with consideration of Japan made, look decent also. But not sure about the performance compare to other 2L car. Appreciate for the advice. Thanks
