Guyver 1st Gear December 18, 2008 Author Share December 18, 2008 Quote But heard that for Mac ... they can only read FAT32 right? So for those that need to share data with Mac .... will have to use FAT32 liao. Can read NTFS but cannot write. So can read NTFS is still not so bad. Osiris 1st Gear December 18, 2008 Share December 18, 2008 why never bother to google? Side by side comparison http://www.ntfs.com/ntfs_vs_fat.htm notable difference is file max size. fat32 4gb, ntfs none.
Simz333 Neutral Newbie December 18, 2008 Share December 18, 2008 Quote Dear all, I just gotten a 1.5TB harddisk .... just wondering which file system to go for assuming this harddisk is going to sit in my PC. Valuable feedback appreciated. Thanks. Generally I would use NFTS more security features You may want to partition your harddisk, format some in FAT32 and some NTFS... in such, you can have flexibility for other OS. Osiris 1st Gear December 18, 2008 Share December 18, 2008 I use NTFS because have video files to edit that's more than 4GB. Practical if you have large ISO files as well. anyhow, wrt other thread, better to first time full format if your hdd is for backup . i didn't bother to do it for a HDD used for playing movies. suggest you partition as well. Myturbo Neutral Newbie December 18, 2008 Share December 18, 2008 I convert music to MP3 or AAC, Video to MP4 format & Photo. So far so good. If you're mac user, use "Handbrake" to convert a movie. A 7.3 GB movie will use only 1.5 to 2.5 GB space with 5.1 surround sound & higher video quality than normal DVD. Quote Bro, it's better to know if your 1.5TB usage like : 1. Window (NTFS) or Mac (FAT32) 2. For data or video, photo or .... For me, i had a 1TB & 500GB network storage HDD. I format them to FAT32 for both Mac & Window usage (Mac can only read on NTFS) My main usage for this 1TB HDD is strictly VIDEO, Photo & Music and 500GB for data backup only. Hope it helps Dear all, I just gotten a 1.5TB harddisk .... just wondering which file system to go for assuming this harddisk is going to sit in my PC. Valuable feedback appreciated. Thanks.
