Pisces69 6th Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 My very first car was a COE car that came with 4 different brands of tires and 4 different wear rate on them!!! On my very first wet road condition some 2 weeks after purchase, the car skidded while stopping at a traffic junction. Four different grip levels + wet road + newbie driver. Opposite lane was a police patrol car watching my car doing the stunt. Lucky I did not bang into anything, the car came to a halt at a 45 degree angle at the traffic junction. From then on, I knew the importance of the four tires. My advise, change all four of them especially when now its the rainy season. I'm using Hankook and am loving them comfortable, quiet and good wet weather grip. ======================== Hi Adrian. Can advise which model Hankook u using & size. Also the cost & where u bought. I looking for some tires now so getting quite dizzy with all the makes, models & prices to contend with. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 when u have collected the car, go to either eng wah at TP lor 8 or SE tyres at kaki bukit let them give their opinion ok, i will keep that in mind, TP Lor 8 very convenient, near one of my project site haha ===================== See Vincent (boss) of Eng Wah. Very helpful. I got my battery from him. His prices also good. Comparable to the Jewellery shop prices. Maybe even better sometimes.
Pisces69 6th Gear December 16, 2008 Share December 16, 2008 What exactly is the '2k' paint that most ppl talk about? Some code or something? ====================== 2K is something like 2 kinds. 1st is the colour coat & the 2nd is the clear coat. Try to check if the painter can do an extra layer on the clear coat. Its worth as every time u polish, u remove a thin layer of clear coat. If its thicker, u can polish more times b4 u need a complete re-spray again. Galantspeedz Turbocharged December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 Normal white paint st $500 a coat will be slow dry paint. If you want 2K oven bake white paint, it is still $800 to $1000. In fact paint dont cost much. It is the skilled labour. price i was quoted is 2k paint. but that was start of this yr. duno got increase anot

Chickensoup 1st Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 2K is a german term as this technology was develop by some German company. 2K = 2 components. The 2 components are namely the colour resin + a lacquer coat (Shining). Slow dry paint was the older type of paint that we used to paint our door or home grill, is not as glossy. Chickensoup 1st Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 Spray painter especially the "old hand" will not want to do 2 layers of clear coat. First 2 layers will get you a very glossy finish but you run the risk of cracking.
Riceracer Clutched December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 (edited) Yes if you cornered your car to the tyre's limit. Ask yourself this question. When was the last time you corner until your car skids? 99% of the driver here drive well below our car limits. I guess majority of the drivers only use 20-30% of the tyre lateral grip. I think most cars here use pickup tyres also more than enough. Keke.... Edited December 17, 2008 by Riceracer
Chickensoup 1st Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 More of a phychological thingy with 3 diff brands in a car. As long as if the 3 brands are about the same performance level, it should be ok.
Chromas 1st Gear December 17, 2008 Share December 17, 2008 PH tires is usually v busy, so sometimes their attitude on the phone is rather rushed. I only get 2nd hand tires from him for my drifting. Personally, I think you should change all 4 pieces. 15" tires are about $85 to $90 per piece for your size.

So I wonder if yr price is better & is the tire that good? Maybe u can PM me the price u paid?

Gantan88 Clutched December 17, 2008 Author Share December 17, 2008 If the other 3 tires r still in good condition, just change the 1 bridgestone to a similar Sumitomo model so all 4 tires r the same make & model. Use the Bridgestone as your spare tire. Keep your costs down & still maintain safety. It best to have all 4 tires the same but if u cant, u MUST have at least tires on the same axle as the same. Eg: front 2 same & rear 2 same. If u have different make & model on the same axle, the grip & handling wil b different & likely to skid. I try to change all my 4 tires at one go to ensure they all grip the same. Also I balance & rotate all 4 tires every 10K km to ensure they last a very long time. U also need to do the 4 wheel computerised alignment every 20-30K km or if u have done any work on your suspension or steering components. Or if u feel the handling/steering not as good as before. Hitting a big bump wil cause the alignment to run out. Very dangerous cornering in the rain with mis-aligned wheels. Eh, sounds viable. so if i use the BS tire as spare tire, then what to do with the existing spare toyo tire? Trade in the Toyo spare tire for a new sumitomo? then the BS use as spare. DO shops just take tires without the rims?
Gantan88 Clutched December 17, 2008 Author Share December 17, 2008 I would like to, but at this kind of climate, i am trying to be prudent in my spending. I just called P*h H**g and the attitude of the uncle on the phone is really f***-up. I enquire about the price of Bridgestone GR80 and he said no stock and not coming in anymore and they don't do trade in. The existing tires threads are still pretty deep and it is really a waste to throw it away. =================== Replaced by RE001. U can also try Yoko DNA DB or even Michelin XM1. I personally prefer the XM1 as I was using the b4 & the grip in wet/dry is great & they last a long time. Good value for money. Pity they dont come in the size of my new rims. Good luck on your new car. Just remember, now is a buyers market so dont b afraid to bargain the price down till underground & if u not happy, walk away. U wil find another better deal very soon out there. But remember to make the tires grip well & last a long time, u must balance regularly & also do the 4 wheel computerised alignment regularly too. I am not really into tires. All the brands and models... information over-whelmed. So as long as majority says this model is good, i'll likely to follow I no need bargain liao, cos i already bought it. During the process of negotiation, i can sense their desperation.
